Hi. I'm new to this forum, but I'm
looking for some advice about bi-polar.
My sister and I agree that my mom is just
off her rocker more than ever this past
year... She is super-controlling, she
calls and wants to talk for hours every
day (about nothing), she nit-picks and
cricitizes everything we do (and then
denies that she is doing so, saying she's
just trying to be helpful).... She'll make
comments that make no sense at all, and
she seems to get mood swings out of
nowhere. She'll pick a fight and won't
let it go till she is conviced that you
agree with her..... I don't know how else
to describe her. These traits have always
been present but have severely worsened
over the years. About 5 years ago she
quit her job as a R.N. and changed her
career to real estate. Now she "works
from home" but we're afraid she's just too
unstable for a normal job. She is now 50.
Is this possibly bi-polar? Is there any
way we can help her get back to normal?

She should see a professional. A
psychiatrist is the doctor to take her to.
Will she go? A neurologist may be of some
help as well. There could be something
going on that is causing some of the
behaviors. Metabolic imbalances can cause
some of these symptoms. See if she will go
to see someone. It can be difficult to get
a loved one to go to the doctor. Perhaps
writing down some of the behaviors will
help. If she will not go I am not sure you
have much recourse. Good luck.
