Life Threatening Allergies Posted: 05-01-04 07:19am
My name is mark. When 3 and 5 (2
episodes) I had anaphylaxis. This was
when doctors made house calls - and he got
there just in time to save my life. I
went through years of shots. Went thorugh
the army, and am now 49 years old. 2
years ago, after suffering what I thought
was a flu-like cold every spring, I was
re-tested. The results showed strong
allergies to trees, cats, dogs, mites, all
grasses. A few (like ragweed) were
literally right off the charts, and
couldn't be measured. (i live in
louisville, ky - home of the ohio valley,
known to be one of the top 3 worst places
to live for allergies).
My problem is this. With record pollen
counts this spring i'm concerned. I can
hardly breathe in stereo at anytime, but
in mono often. My throat is very sore,
one ear is very sore, i'm draggy, have
little energy, and I feel like breathing
is getting a little more difficult. I'm
taking stahist, and allegra every day, as
well suckers, and nasonex. My allergist
is afraid to prescribe an epipen because I
also take atenelol to control pvcs. I
don't get it. Should taking medication
for pvcs eliminate the possible help of an
epipen if needed. Or, is the possiblity
of having a true anaphylaxis shock, as an
adult, from pollen so remote as to not
worry? I also have sleep apnea and wear
a breathing machine at night, if I cna
breathe through my nose, which lately has
been impossible.

I would think at this point that your risk
of anaphylaxis would be minimal,
especially if you only had the episodes
when you were young. I do know what you
mean about this spring. We finally got
rain here in sc (we haven't had rain in
awhile) and I am hoping it will have
washed a lot of the pollen away. I have
been suffering for months here. I am on
allergy shots myself. I have bad
allergies to pollen, mold and ragweed (and
a whole list of others which is why I get
3 shots once a week). I would make sure
you keep extra benadryl on hand at all
times even if your on the other medicine
so if you do feel like you are swelling up
you can take that. Chances are if your
doc is not concerned you need an epipen
then you probably don't need one.

Allergic rhinitis is the condition which
you are suffering from which gets worse on
exposure to pollen and other allergens.
Nasal discharge, blocking, sneezings,
mucus falling from the nose into the
throat associated with other symptoms like
bodyache, fever etc. Can all be remedies
with homeopathic medicine with remedies
like pothos, eupa perf, sabadilla, senega,
sambucus, kali bich, etc. I am sure with
homeopathy you can see through the season
safely.
