Just the facts: abortion methods

1. Dilation and curettage - the mother's cervex is dilated and the living child is cut to pieces with a curette knife

2. Suction - a hollow tube with a knife edged tip is inserted into the uterus. The suction from the asperator tears the baby apart and sucks the baby into a container. The head is crushed.

3. Dilation and evacuation - using a sharp toothed pliers like instrument the abortionist grasps a part of the baby's body and tears it away. This dismemberment of the living baby continues without anaesthetic until all parts of the child are removed. Bleeding is profuse.

4. Hysterotomy - somewhat like a c - section; the child is removed and left to die in a bucket. Usually performed in late term abortions, children will move, breathe and some will even cry.

Ru486
Ru486 is mifeprex (mifepristone), the abortion pill

mifeprex is the brand name of mifepristone in the u.S., and is sometimes referred to as non-surgical abortion, medical abortion, or ru486. Non-surgical abortions using ru486 are performed in the first 63 days of the first trimester. Non-surgical abortion is usually in pill form (mifeprex or ru486), and sometimes by injection or in liquid form (methotrexate). If you call a clinic seeking a non-surgical abortion, make sure you know which version you will be receiving. The side effects and the costs can vary between mifeprex (ru486) and methotrexate. Mifeprex (ru486) is approved by the fda for non-surgical abortion.

The most common non-surgical abortion is performed with mifeprex or ru486. For more detailed information on mifeprex, please visit www.Mifeprex.Com. Mifeprex is provided through a doctor’s office or clinic. Many women choose mifeprex to avoid surgery. Others feel that mifeprex is more private because they can end their pregnancy at home. Some feel that it is more natural than a surgical abortion. Non-surgical abortion with mifeprex will stop your pregnancy from growing and vaginal suppositories will help expel your pregnancy. Because there is a chance of failure with mifeprex, you must be willing to have a surgical abortion if the procedure fails. In addition, you must be able to commit to two or more visits to the clinic.

Commonly asked questions about mifeprex

how does mifeprex work?
Mifeprex blocks a hormone needed for your pregnancy to continue. When used together with another medicine called misoprostol, mifeprex ends your pregnancy.

How effective is mifeprex?
Mifeprex followed by the vaginal insertions is approximately 95-97% effective.

How can I get mifeprex?
You can get mifeprex from a clinic or certain doctor’s offices. Because it can be used only during early stages of pregnancy, you must come in for your appointment before you are 63 days from the day your last period began. The earlier you call the better.

What are the advantages of mifeprex?
Because mifeprex comes in pill form and is taken by mouth, you can usually avoid surgery. Also, because it works very early in your pregnancy, mifeprex allows you to take early action to end your pregnancy. Many women feel that mifeprex is private and more natural.

What are the side effects of mifeprex?
Bleeding and cramping are a normal part of the process. The bleeding can be heavier than a normal period. Bleeding and spotting usually lasts from 9-16 days. In some cases, women may have severe bleeding and then would need to contact the clinic or their doctor immediately. Your provider will instruct you on how to handle any pain, nausea, headache, vomiting, or diarrhea that could also occur with the use of mifeprex.

How safe is mifeprex?
The fda, which has tested it for both safety and effectiveness, has approved mifeprex. In the past decade, over 1 million women worldwide have safely used ru486 to end their pregnancies. It is now approved for use in more than 29 countries, including the u.S. And most european countries. Mifeprex has been chosen by nearly 200,00 women in the u.S.

It was a drug that was .F.D.A approved. It was a super slimming tablet that many women used durring the late 80's early 90's women who used it eventually got many problems a hell of a lot died and many are still under excessive treatment. Eventually the drug was banned by the .F.D.A after a doctor who recieved many threats from the drug manufacture went public.

There are many fda approved drugs that end up having adverse effects. They just recently banned ephedra.
All drugs can cause death sami if taken in certain ways.

But this is not a debate forum, facts only. Proven, written facts. No just a quote from someone.

Definitely Against Surgical Abortions.
Private and more natural? Obviously ending a pregnancy, especially healthy ones, are not very natural at all.

Rolling Eyes first off, none of your definitions are accurate descriptions of the procedures, do a little more homework (and I don't mean from your local cpc or heavy handed religious right org du jour) and then talk to us. Most of what you wrote is just reactionary propaganda.

As for natural, if a woman's natural inclination is to not want children, or a child at that time in her life, and she becomes pregnant for whatever reason, it is then, natural for her to terminate the pregnancy. Women have been doing it for as long as there has been a rudimentary knowledge of herbs. Just because reliable surgical procedures have only recently (in human history) been developed doesn't mean women didn't terminate pregnancies of their own will. It's only in the 20th century when churches learned of the "great abortion debate" that they found one further way they could control people, and made up the morality arguement. And if a "healthy" pregnancy would otherwise create an unhealthy mother, why should an inviable creature's potential life take priority over hers??

Ahhh abortion, one more tool in controlling women via forced motherhood.

Why don't you take care of some unwanted babies, or perhaps some older children who are abused because their parents never wanted to become parents, and then think again about how you go on preaching.

Say What?
You think the debate is just about controlling women? They will do what they want, personally I don't condone abortion. And it should certainly be considered the last option and not taken lightly.

Just because something has been going on for ages does not justify an action either. That does not make it right. Torcher has been going on just as long if not longer than abortion, does that justify it or make it right?

As for that "inviable creature" ... Why do you call it a creature, is it not human, do they ever come out not human? It isn't just a creature, it is a human being, granted it is in a certain stage of development that all humans must go through, but does that prohibit it the right to continue to live? It is not potential life, it is life, it is alive... Birth is not where human life begins.

Secondly, it is viable according to the first definition which is "capable of living, developing, or germinating under favorable conditions" ... And the favorable condition for a zygote or fetus is in the womb. But abortion is ok because if you take a zygote or a fetus out of the womb it will die?

So let's send people outside of the earth's atmosphere w/ no space suits, it's ok, because they aren't viable outside of the earth's atmosphere, that's their fault.

Thirdly, abortion is not surgery, surgery is defined as:
1. The branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of injury, deformity, and disease by manual and instrumental means.
2. A surgical operation or procedure, especially one involving the removal or replacement of a diseased organ or tissue

lastly, who was preaching in this set of posts? There were simply two people that listed some supposed methods of abortion. If they were wrong, then correct them, I myself would like to know as much about the procedure as possible, but for some reason it does not seem too easy to find it reliably... However, no one was preaching.

I'm not, that's why I said I can't find "reliable" sources for abortion procedures or facts. I mean they are out there, but to me, the whole abortion industry seems a bit secretive, why isn't it a little more open about what it does and what is being done? And don't tell me right to privacy. They can release general information or statistics without breaching anyone's confidentiality. It is done with many other procedures.

It doesn't seem secretive to me at all. Statistics are not reliable anyway, so what would be the point in wasting time trying to calculate them? They do have stats about abortion out there though. It is about as reliable as any other stats: not very.
