Q: Still no period after stopping microgynon?

Hello,
I came off microgynon in October due to extreme migraines. A soon as I stopped taking it they disappeared I lost weight and my general mood is brilliant - all good!
The only thing is I have only had one period since which was very light and more of a slight bleeding than a period. My partner and I have been using condoms and I had a pregnancy test when I was back in the uK just incase in December - but it was negative. (I live in Japan so it's impossible to get Doctors help really as they have almost no experience in women using the pill). Still I have no period and in the last two weeks I have had period symtoms - a little bit of PMS, discharge, slightly bigger breasts and a bloated stomach plus a very slight pain in my upper area of my stomach. ?
Does anyone have any experience of coming off microgynon? I know every body is different but I'd be grateful for any information. I really don't think I'm pregnant as we have been super careful with condoms but just wonder when if at all to expect my period?
Thanks

Confused
wonder if this is just a side affect of coming off microgynon???

Coming off of any hormonal birth control can mess up your cycle for many months. It's not specific to microgynon.

hi im in the same boat, i stopped takin microgynon at the end of january , because i was suffering from really bad headaches, i had my with drawel bleed for only 2 days then stopped then 3 days later started to get like a brown discharge but people say this is old blood due to being on pill for 4 years. im now late for my period but the last 2 week ive been feeling bloated and have a ache in my lower abdomen, it quiet hard to explain what it feels like. im a mother of 2 so i no what it feels like to be pregnant and i can say i have the same feelings but could it just be the hormones trying to re adjust in my body, any one any idea's????? im goin to take a hpt tommorrow and see what that says il keep u posted

Hi Nicola, i've read that the symptoms we have are very typical to a hormonal imbalance. I'm off to the dr's in the next couple of weeks so will update as soon as i know!

hi han1312 r u getting the bloated feelings and that weird cramping feel right at ur lower abdoman, my lower back is aching to, im thinkin that this might just be due to comin off the pill but i had all these symtoms wen i was pregnant. im trying not to worry to much cuz they say what u think can affect how ur body reacts. u see i had these symtoms wiv my last pregnancy i took a hpt and that came bk negative so i booked in with doc and he didnt know wot was goin on so he sent me for scan and that revealed i was 17 week pregnant. this is why im abit concerned now but it is hard not to think about it.

Hello Nicola,

I am bloated and have cramping and lower back pain exactly as you mentioned. My boobs are also very sore, paticularly around the nipple. I'm equally concerned as there is a chance i could be pregnant but only a very small chance (i hope). We used condoms and had no problems...if i was i'd be the unlucky 1%!! I haven't done a hpt as i'm so convinced i'm not...this might be foolish but i'd be 3months pregant now if i was and i'm not showing. YOur symptoms sound exactly like mine so i'll be interested what your results say! Keep me updated! You'll be fine whatever happens i'm sure x

hi hans 1312 well i took a pregnancy test yesturday afternoon and it came bk negative. but it is like these symtoms are adding over night i woke up this morning and my nipples are really sensitive. it says on the leaflet that if u av missed a period and test came bk negative to wait 48 hours and do another because there mitght not be enough hcg hormones for the test to detect. so should i wait or book in with the doctor. me and my partner have been really carefull since i came off the pill but the was a time were we both got abit carried away after a nite out so i no that would of been the time, but its not like ive just met him ive been with this bloke since i was 16 and im now 26 and i have 2 kids to him but why am i so worried wether i am r not. he says i must be and its my hormones cuz its not like me at all.

Hi Nicola,

Well firstly i think the negative result is a good sign. I think you should perhaps wait 48hrs and do another. I still think you should go to the doctor to put your mind at rest if that result also comes back negative. You have only missed one period and from what i can gather from what i have read it can take several months for your periods to regulate so try not to worry too much!
If you are pregnant though remember you have options! And look at me..I'm 28 and single so things could always be worse Wink
You have the same symptoms i have and i don't think i'm pregnant, your partner is most likely right it probably is your hormones but rather an imbalance than a baby!!! Try not to worry!x

Its ok, its good to hear from you too!
My nipples are no longer sore and any period-type-pain i had, like the cramps etc have gone.I'm just basically planning on sticking my head in the sand for a bit and hope that my period arrives and a baby doesn't!!!!

Hi all, im very new to all this and i would just like some advice. I am getting married in june and myself and my partner are goin to start trying for a honeymoon baby. I was due to take my new pack (microgynon 30) on tuesday 10th but we have decided for me to stop taking it all together and just use condoms until after the wedding. I have been on microgynon for almost 8 years & I have heard it can take a while to get out your system? Also I have found that it has made me gain weight over the years and found that my hair has thinned dramatially. My sister is a hairdresser and she said this could be the hormones? Has anyone else found this to be the case? As I am getting married on 20th june if i did get pregnant now do you think i'd be showing for the big day? Thanks all x

hi ejg123 i found that when i was on microgynon my hair as already started thickning but that could also be due to the fact im expecting as it did with my other 2 also my nails (time to stop bitimg then and give them a chance to grow why ive got the advantage lol) u proberly wont be showin if u got caught now ad if u do i shouldnt expect to much of a show.but everyone are different so dont take my word for it. it can take a while for microgynon to leave ur body again every1 are different as i was all over the net to figure out what was goin on with my body! i got took off it end of january and got caught straight away i had my withdrawel bleed then a couple of days later like a brown discharge then nothing. took a test was to early tho it was neg then took another few days later and a v.faint line i went to the docs and got it confirmed that i actually am. any way hun hope this helps and congratulations for the big day hun hope everything goes well

Thanks for that nicola82. Also I have another question for everyone, I took my last pill on 2nd March and had my withdrawl bleed and neber took it again. To roughly guess when my period will arrive to I count 28 days from the 2nd march ( so roughly 26th march )? From what people have been saying about not having periods for months after coming off microgynon its quite worrying! Has anyone had side affects since coming off it? I have had the occasional wave of neausea and more vaginal discharge than before. I know its very unlikley that im pregnant as we have been using condoms since i came off the pill. Thanks x

Hi,
I came off the pill in January 2008, I've had 4 very random and sporadic periods in the last 17 months... last one was 4 months ago (I'm not pregnant)
This isn't so much of a problem at the moment as I'm not trying to get pregnant, but it worries me that my body isn't working properly, and puts me off going back on the pill when I'm in another long term relationship for fear of having problems conceiving when I want to.
I've seen my GP twice about it, he did an extensive test for all my hormone levels, all of which were perfectly normal, so we don't know what the problem is. My natural periods were like clockwork before going on the pill.
