i also have the some of the same problems
pmarie has with the constant soar throat
the red swollen tonsils and white debree
in them. Its called cryptic chronic
tonsilitis. And if antibiotics dont help
the only thing to do is get your tonsils
out. And I too felt the rock hard mass in
my in my throat when I stuck my finger
down there. I was concerned about cancer
but was told its my lymphnodes swollen to
try and fight the infection cuz its viral.
And antis cant do a thing about it.
Try some boosting of your immune system.
Vitamin c pills zinc and magnesium to
help. And the antibiotics do more harm
them help if your pain does not go away
and neither do the symptoms. There is a
web site call coqui in winterfalls that
has helpfull testimonys from people that
have the same problems and had there
tonsils out.. I have had this for 3
months and it just wont go away. Also
mind over matter the more you think about
it the more it just wont go away....

This is just weird. I have have been
experiencing the same problem for about 10
months now. Main difference is that I do
not have tonsils. I have been treated for
thrush and it did not help. Antibiotics
do not seem to help either, they kill the
more acute infection (always a sinus
infection) but they do not kill whatever
it is that causes that big hurting swollen
thing in the back left side of my throat.
(left side - very strange)
weird thing is, it all started with a sore
throat that felt like I was swallowing
fire, which I can only imagine, really
burns. Strept test was negative. Doctor
said it was a virus, and that it would
probably go away in 2-3 days. He was
right. However, over those 2-3 days, I
developed that damn lump in the back side
of my throat where my tonsils ought to be.
I have been getting sick a lot more this
winter, it always seems like a minor
virus, that swiftly turns into a sinus
infection that kicks my .. Nothing new,
but the frequency of getting sick is new.
I was scoped a few years ago, they found
my entire esophogus was really small, 9 mm
wide compared to the normal 20 mm. They
used that evil balloon to stretch it out
by another 4 mm, and I spent the next 2
weeks with the worst cramps - then even a
year later occasional cramps that would
kill a normal man.. Anyway, the last time
I visited my general physician she
recommended they go scope me again. I
really want to avoid that, but if nobody
has had any success fixing this problem, I
may just bite the bullet..
Today I started antibiotics for what the
doctor suspects is an upper respitory
infection. Other than the fact that my
throat is so damn swollen and red, and the
uvula keeps getting in the way, there is
nothing to indicate that it is an
infection. I put off the antibiotics for
2 days hoping it would develop into a real
sickness, but it just kept swelling.
If it is not bacteria, and it is not
thrush, what is it? Could it just be a
really angry immune system and some kind
of allergic response? I had been taking 1
benadryl daily for maybe 2 years, could it
have hosed something?
My mouth is dry, my throat hurts, and I am
tired - someone please, just fix me up..

i do understand where you are coming from
as I have had mine for over two years. It
has been a fair bit more bearable of late
but is still there. All I can suggest is
to look into cfs, as one of the main
aliments of that is a constant sore
throat. You also might notice other
things that you are also going
through...............Its worth a look.
Sorry I cannot be of more help.

Hi. I just found this forum searching for
inflamed uvula. I have the same problem. I
had a terrible cold and suddenly woke up
once the cold cleared up with a terribly
inflamed uvula. Was put on an antibiotic,
Levoquin, got worseeeee the next day, also
took and allergy Xynox or something like
that. So next day was sent to the ER, they
found nothing, no strep, only elevated
liver enzymes, mono negative but possible
that it's not showing up yet they say..but
basically no solution, gave me a pepcid,
that seemed to help a bit. I kept taking
Benadryl too, they prescribed it too, but
it helps a litle not much. ANd I was so
annoyed with their not understanding the
seriousness of it. The words used were "
mild discomfort" . I just wanted to scream
and say well I hope you get the "mild
discomfort" I have than I will ask you.
Disgusted I am by the doctors who have no
clueeeeeee what they are doing, they
simply don't know so they dismiss it as
"SOME VIRUS". I am so discusted with the
doctors in the US. I have seen them be so
incompentent soooo many times in so many
situations. I hatee when my doc mentions
the ER because I know it, I know it will
just a huge waste of time and money with a
terrible dissapointment in the end...and
ofcourse go back to your primary
afterwards, so why go to the ER in the
first place....... rghhhhhhhh as you can
tell I am frustrated. And ofcourse during
surviving this I can't work, and we know
how much our employers in the US love
that. Well I would just loveee to study
medicine and changeeeeee some things
around here, but no money mostly.

I really feel for you. I too have a very
bad throat. It all started about 3 montha
ago with a feeling of something stuck in
the right side of my throat. Noe, I am
in alot of pain. It hurts all the time
and really kills after I eat. I have been
seen by an EMT, scoped through the nose
and had a endoscopy and a baruim swallow.
Nothing was found, not even some redness.
Right now, my throat feels like it is
being poked by a hot dagger. I keep
clearing it hoping I will dislodge
something (phantomfeeling) I have no
swelling at all, just a whole lot of
pain...I am open to any help.

Chronic Sore Throat Posted: 09-06-08 11:58am
I have had a sore throat/neck spasms since
12/07 then a thryoid nodule showed up same
day. Flash forward 8 mo (today Sept 5,
2008). I won't go into alot of detail
because it will take too long but final
testing last week is a 24hr PH monitoring
which you put a tube down your nose to see
how much acid/refux I might be doing in
the espogus/throat area.
I have had every test under the sun and
though it might be the nodule causing the
problem. Had the nodule removed 7/31 but
still have the problem. VERY frustrating
and painful. Going back to another ENT
next week to make sure we are ruling out
another serious problems like cancer.
