opinions on anxiety meds - Effexor XR Posted: 02-05-08 16:38pm
I am going thru some major hormonal
problems that have not been relieved by
diet and excercise and supplements. One
of the symptoms is anxiety. I am not a
candidate for hormone replacement so they
want to put me on meds. Currently I take
Xanax as needed but they want me to
subscribe to a long term medication as
this issue will most likely be present for
some time. I tried a dose of lexapro but
it seemed to make my anxiety worse! I did
not take the dose the next day. The new
drug being prescribed is Effexor XR with
Ativan as needed. Has anyone had
experience with these medications. I am
very nervous about taking any new meds, I
just cant stand the thought of feeling
worse than I already do!

If you try a few more antidepressants and
they make your anxiety worse, you may need
a mood stabilizer instead. The same thing
happened to me. Everyone is so different.
Effexor and Wellbutrin all have a
stimulant compentent to them but still
seems to be helpful for some people with
anxiety. For me and a few other people I
know, those two make them feel worse.
Again, everyone is so different. They may
really help you.
Paxil and Zoloft are commonly used for
anxiety. Zoloft and Lexapro, however, are
very similar in their makeup so perhaps
that wouldn't be a good choice for you.
The trial and error thing is so
frustrating, but once you get on the right
medication you will feel much better. I
commend you for trying the other
alternatives before trying medication!!!
That is wonderful.
I hope you really get to feeling better
soon.

i've taken it on and off(effexor xr)for
7yrs it has done me good in the past i
take it for GAD & panic attacks they
stink big time sometimes when i would stop
it for some dumb reason and get back on it
i would have side effects but they went
away i think maybe you should give it a
try it's alot better than suffering with
anxiety
