Biokineticist and Physiotherapist disagree over wrist pain
Posted: 02-05-08 09:58am

I have a problem with my Biokineticist and Physiotherapist not agreeing...and if you like you can through in my GP just for kicks Wink

This started last year around about September when I would get this burning pain in my left wrist that would last a min or so and then just disappear for a couple of days. I eventually went to my GP after I couldn't take it any longer.

Thinking it was tendinitis, he had me on two cycles of anti-inflammatory after which he sent me for X-Rays when it turned out that it wasn't helping. The X-Rays came back clean with no signs of any soft tissue problems or carpul abnormalities so he put me back on the anti-inflam for another 10 days.

When I went back to him and told him nothing had helped, he sent me to a physio. In the mean time I had told my Biokineticist (the pain started before I started Biokinetichs) so she would be aware of it and work around it.

So, in the end, what it boils down to is:

My Biokineticist -

thinks it's inflammation and doesn't want me to do anything with my hand till it's better.

My Physio -

thinks it's a shoulder/neck problem and is using me as a human pin-cushion.

And whenever I inform the one of the other's treatment (so they don't interfear with eachother) they get egro and say it's not what the other syas it is.

In the mean time, my physio has started to use me as a pin-cushion. First in my wrist...which wasn't that bad but today's session was PAAAAAINFULL!

She probed my shoulder and neck and (related to my wrist or not) there definately is something wrong there. She used my shoulder as a pin-cushion and unlike my wrist, it BURNT like HELLFIRE... She also massaged my shoulder and neck...which was just as painfull and then placed a hot water bottle on my neck and shoulder.

When I got up, my "healthy" arm was limp! It was the eariest feeling ever. I would tell it to do something...it would get half way and then just flop down to my side with me having no control over it what so ever. This lasted for about 5 min's or so...

Anyone have insight into the pain and or suggestions as to what to do about these two, very helpfull but very opposite, treatments?

Shoulder spasmism related to rib-cage anomily?
Posted: 02-07-08 08:48am

Ok...so I apparantly have a permanent spasm (spasmism) in my left shoulder blade as well as on the right side of my neck. This can be attributed to a number of things.

1. Whiplash from an accident I had last year.
2. Improper posture while sitting in front of the pc.

The thing that has peeked my interest though is that I spoke to a guy, that had a permenant shoulder spasm due to having broken a rib.

In the first place, is this possible?

Secondly...

I have a strange anomily with the left side of my rib-cage being more pronounced than the right. I don't know where it comes from and have allready had problems doing certain exercises at the Bio-kineticist due to it. She would ask me to flatten my chest and the harder I try the more she says "Flatten your chest!" untill I eventually told her about my rib-cage. She wanted to know when I had broken my ribs...but I never had any broken ribs.

My question in this regard is...

1. Could this be the cause/contributing factor to my shoulder spasmism?
2. Where would this anomily have come from? I must have had it all my life as I have always thaught something weird was going on with my left rib-cage.
3. Is it worth mentioning to my physio-therapist? I am allready struggling with her as it is...when I do mention things, she gets irretated...when I don't mention things, she gets furious...

Thanks in advance.
