Medical abortions can cause fertility problems such as sterility in the future from possible complications during the procedure such as an infection of the uterus. Such an infection can spread up to the Fallopian tubes and can cause adhesions and tube obstruction. Mild dysplasia is treated with a cone-biopsy. Cone biopsies do also include some risks to fertility but not as high as the risks during a case of medical abortion.
