Q: TMJ and Candida

Hi there,
This is my first post so forgive me if a lot of this has already been covered.

I have for about 5 yrs suffered from stomach problems which most doctors have found impossible to diagnose. The stomach pain in-turn caused me to clench my jaw and various TMJ symptoms have occurred. The symptoms are ear ache pains, really bad cheek pain (thought it was wisdom teeth coming through - but they're through and still pain), temple pain and sinus problems including pressure at the top of my nose (which I'm constantly clearing).

I was diagnosed with an over-growth of candida in my stomach which causes many of the same symptoms of TMJ - like loss of balance, lack of energy, head aches, flu-like symptoms etc etc.

Is there any known links between Candida over-growth and TMJ? Confused

Many thanks
Vini

I had to go look this up. i found something. I will continue to look though
http://www.angelchiro.com/candida.htm look at the last paragraph. its small and thats why im going to look further.

I know that i have stomach related issues with out the candida from the tmd. Ive never really run into any one that had this. but from what ive read so far it makes some sence.

i think we have a candida forum. i think that you should really try hard to resolve the candida--perhaps if you do that then the tmj will resolve itself. I will refer my sister over here as she knows more about candida than i do. You should google diets specific for people with candida. i think that eating has a lot to do with it.

I have done a bit of research on candida. There is a special diet which you should follow to get rid of this problem, and depending on why you have it, you may need to stay on this diet. It's very healthy for you anyways! It is very difficult to follow this diet, but it looks like you are really needing to take drastic measures.

There are various diets that I have looked at and some say different things than others, so it's hard to tell what exactly is ok and what isn't. The bottom line is that candida is a yeast infection that feeds off sugar, whether it be from grains or processed sugars. When you are craving a lot of sugar, it's actually a hungry and growing candida.

What you will have to do is basically go on a diabetic's diet, which is basically taking anything and everything out of your diet that is sweet, including yeast and gluten. There are more relaxed versions of the diet that you can probably go for once your condition is more under control, but for now you should probably take the diet very strictly and not even eat the foods that are allowed on a limited basis.

Here is a pretty good link that will help you with choosing a new diet:

TMJ and Candida
Hi there,
Thank-you both for your posts.

Tmddyan - That last paragraph is very interesting indeed. Apparently 80% of the population have a candida overgrowth so I'm starting to wonder if this brings on the TMJ in a lot of people (like myself). I've noticed a lot of people on the TMJ forum mentioning stomach problems so I'll do a bit more research also.

mominashoe - Thanks for the info also. I have tried a few candida diets in the past but always end up ruining it by going out and drinking loads of beer Very Happy I'm taking a very powerful probiotic called "Fivelac" and cutting down on sugar/yeast at the moment and I think it's working as I had very intense die-off symptoms last week. I've also stopped clenching my jaw as the stomach pain has calmed down slightly.

Cheers
Vini

Who diagnosed you with these candida problems and how was the diagnosis made? I've had chiros tell me I had candida problems too, but after further research I am not so sure.

TMJ and Candida
Hi Hydrosiren ,
I went to a nutritionalist (as I had terrible stomach pains and thought I might be allergic to certain foods) and they hooked me up to a monitor and did a
Bio-resonance and food allergy test. I'm in the UK but here's the link for you... http://www.fairbourneclinic.co.uk/therapie s/bio_resonance_testing_Newbury_Berkshire. htm

They said I had extremely high levels of candida (highest she had ever seen). i was at University at the time and I had a diet of alcohol and the odd meal. Apparently that combination with a few anti-biotics thrown in had definately caused the problem.
