Q: Swelling and heat in hands and arms

I recently experienced swelling in my hands and arms. Along with the swelling, my arms felt very hot which was then followed by a prickly sensation. I have not seen a doctor, and wonder if I should. Could this be symptoms to something more serious that I need to get checked out?
