My mom gets reoccuring UTIs. She often complains of bad cramps and there is blood in her pee. She's 40 . Does anyone know what works to prevent these infections?

She might want to investigate interstitial cystitis but in any case she absolutely must be seen by someone if she has not already done so as it could be any number of things.

It is possible your mother is not being treated with the proper antibiotics.
Also IC as shonster mentioned is a possibility. Many doctors over look this or don't believe it is an issue.
Does she have any flank pain? Having blood in the urine can also indicate a possible stone floating around which can cause more problems. Did any doctors do an ultrasound or CT scan to check for stones?

Hmmm ... I was wondering why people kept referring to me as 'suckers' so I did a bit of searching around and it seems that every time you type 'a' followed by 's' followed by 's' again (not necessarily in the same word) the word 'suckers' will come up, presumably because somoen in their superior wisdom thought we were trying to type A-S-S!
