Q: Ringworm treatment
asked by: DoctorQuestion on February 2nd, 2008
I’ve been taken them about a week and I haven’t noticed any change, except it’s slightly flakier than normal. Is this a sign of getting better? Or is it just a coincidence?

Will this definitely clear it up? How long will it take? And what does ringworm look like when its healing?

Thank you

YOU WROTE:

Diagnosis that has been suggested: Ringworm, skin scrpaing showed negative for fungus. Dr diagnosed on it by sight
Current medical status: I’ve been diagnosed with ringworm by my doctor, I’ve had it for over 4 months now, I’ve tried two different anti fungal creams and it hasn’t cleared up. It’s just got worse whilst using the cream and it is quite extensive around my groin.
Current medical treatment: My doctor has since prescribed me with Terbinafine tablets (1-a-day 250mg). I'm also applying tea tree oil to one area (on my own research)

If the skin scraping diagnostic test didn’t confirm a fungal infection, then you probably don’t have ringworm. Additionally, it seems that 2 antifungal medicines didn’t help after 4 months of treatment. Ringworm usually requires 3 weeks for complete treatment. You can consult a dermatologist about your condition and for another, more precise diagnosis .
