Sleep Eating while semi-conscious Posted: 01-31-08 20:09pm
For the last weeks just about everynight I
get up in the middle of the night and eat
like crazy and while I am eating I am not
completely out of it but I am definitely
not really with it. I feel completely
hazy and confused and semi concious when I
am doing this. One time I got a glass of
milk and ate cookies and feel asleep on
the couch while still holding the glass of
milk and awoke to the sound of the glass
crashing to the floor because it had
slipped out of my hands because I feel
asleep. Another time I feel asleep with
chips still in my mouth. The next day I
will mentally question myself if I ate the
night before and I will remember but it
all seems very hazy. What is this? I
have no control over when it happens.

Have you been experiencing some other
sleeping problems before?
Do you have someone that was witnessing
these night meals?

The only sleep problems I had before was
not being able to fall asleep right away
because of racing anxiety thoughts. But
once I fell asleep I always stayed
sleeping. Never had anything like this
before. And I am aware in the moment that
I am eating but I just can't stop myself I
feel like I absolutely need to eat
something. And sometimes I will fall
asleep while eating or I will fall right
asleep after eating. But I almost always
remember that I got up to eat. It is so
annoyning though because I feel like I
can't control myself. Everynight I go to
bed saying ok your not going to get up to
eat your full you don't need to but every
night I still do! Its frustrating I don't
know what the hell is going on.

Sleep Eating Disorder Posted: 02-18-08 02:46am
Hey, I can totally relate to the sleep
eating thing. It gets so out of control,
and my husband has literally cleaned
peanut butter from all over my face before
falling alseep and i have no memory of it
at all. I wake up to junk food wrappers,
a package of fully eaten cookies, or some
baking ingredients i ate...
I have been taking zopilcone to fall
asleep. It's probably contributing to
the problem.
After doing some research, i learned this
is an actual syndrome and we are NOT
alone. We can't help it much either on
our own unless you can be savvy and come
up with a plan. The problem is really
that our brain is asleep while our body
is awake while this happens. talk to you
doctor. you're not alone.

Do you usually eat more food after dinner
than during that meal?
Are you taking some meds?
