I have astigmatism and I see spots,
floaters, flashing arc-shaped lights and
all sorts. I am not sure if they have
anything to do with astigmatism though!
But my ophthalmologist says my overall eye
health is fine so it must be normal.

flashing lights, spots and astigmatism Posted: 03-04-08 00:31am
Hey I recently have been seeing spots and
flashing lights when im in the dark. I
went to an optomologist who said
everything was perfectly normal except a
little bit of astigmatism, I still have
20/20 vision. No one can seem to figure
out what is wrong. Did your symptoms ever
go away or did you figure out what is
wrong?
I have been looking for answers for a
couple weeks now. Please help.

I think this is normal. Everyone has this
to a greater or lesser extent. I think
you should trust your ophthalmologist who
has checked your eyes and told you
everything is fine. Sometimes you can get
a little aqueous build-up in the back of
the eye which can be caused by stress and
/or overuse of the eyes eg studying or
staring at the screen for hours on end.
It can cause odd flashes of light at the
side of your eyes but it is relatively
harmless and should go away in a metter of
weeks. Just do less of whatever it is you
are doing!
