Small curd-like pieces from esophagus Posted: 01-30-08 09:32am
I have the strangest question, but I have
from time to time had these small,
curd-like, pieces come up my esophagus and
into my mouth. they are a cream color
maybe and have a strong odor almost like
really bad breath. Does anyone know what
these are?

Plaque. I get mine in my tonsils, it
grows in the crevices there.

I had no idea. Are you sure and have you
been told that is what these are? It has
had be baffled and it doesn't happen
often, but it is just odd.
ps.. I love VT. We used to camp there
when we lived in CT.

Clinical diagnosis? No. Did some
reading. I bet if when this happens if
you shine a light in your mouth you'll see
white spots on your tonsils too.

As you sent this I was just reading
something else and are these called
"tonsil stones"? It was very interesting
and I have to say that ever since I have
faithly started brushing my tongue at
night with a tongue scraper from the
dentist, I haven't had any....it's been
months.

What you are describing are most likely
Tonsil Stones. See this link for more
info:
I did do some research on those before you
sent that and that is what I have come to
the conclusion for these things. I have
also realized that since I do scrape my
tongue really good at night now, that they
are gone. I do not seem to have them like
some are describing where they have to
pick and poke them out, but the ones I
have had have just been random pieces that
just seem to come up from my throat I
thought, not tonsils, and in my mouth. I
haven't had them in a while and I am
hoping that maybe it is the tongue
scraping. I do tend to get a coating on
my tongue after eating or drinking certain
things like milk (which I rarely drink) or
eating sweets tends to leave it feeling
coated. the tongue scraper helps though
and get a good one...like from the
dentist.
