my mum suffered a mild heart attack last thursday, since then she has little to no memory of the heart attack, hospitalization. even now she can only get half way through a sentence without starting all over without realizing. she can forget whole periods of the day, ie/ whole mornings & afternoons. at the moment we cant leave her by herself. she is very distressed, is also suffering very labile moods. is this normal & will it get better?.

According to your mother’s symptoms (memory loss, disturbed thoughts, distress, labile moods…) she might be experiencing some type of brain disorder. People diagnosed with heart disorders (arrhythmias) are susceptible to developing circulatory brain disorders, also called insults. The prognosis for the condition will depend upon the type of brain damage sustained. She must be examined by a neurologist in order to confirm or exclude any possible brain disorder.
