Q: meds for shooting back and neck pain

I have to get on a ggod med for my back pain that is shooting down my leg and making my left arm go numb and my neck hurt, causing headaches. I went to the ER on Friday and they gave me 20 Lortab 10's and some steroids. I have been taking the meds as told to but I am STILL IN PAIN! I know that Oxycontin is strong and would get rid of the pain, but they are so addictive. Is there anything in between Lortab 10 and Oxycontin? Or should I just bite the bullet so to speak and ask for the Oxycontin? I have to be able to be pain free, I CANNOT STAND TO LIVE LIKE THIS!! ANYONE, SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!
