I have had severe back and neck pain for years but it was never consistent enough to do anything about it. I just learned to live with the pain. Over the past month, it has gotten extremely bad. I had to go to the ER on Friday and they said that I have something wrong with a disk and lumbar damage and onset Arthiritis. The put me on Loratab and steroids. I have taken that and the pain has not gone away. I hate having to eat so many pills because I know the acetimenophin can mess with your liver and the Loratab dont really get rid of the pain at all anyway. Is there anything stronger or that works better that I should ask them to try me on? I went back on Sunday and they gave me Ultram and Flexeril. The muscle relaxers only make me drowsy and dont help my back pain at all. I dont know why my pain has gotten so intense or what I can take to make it go away. ANY help would be greatly appreciated. I plan on going back to the ER, as I dont have insurance, tomorrow, so if anyone knows of anything that I should ask my Dr. for, please let me know ASAP. You can even email me at *Do not post personal information*

Thank you.

Did they do an MRI or any other type of scan to confirm the disc/lumbar damage while you were in the ER?

BACK PAIN
No, they didnt in the ER. I am scheduled to see a neurosurgeon on Monday though and maybe he can get me on some pain meds and figure out what is wrong with me.

Pain Meds
I was in the hospital this past week for a kidney stone and they put me on 100mg of Demerol every 2 hours and I was STILL in pain for my back and leg and neck. I dont know but I just thought that having Demerol would relieve SOME of my back pain and/or give me some sense of relief, but I was wrong. I have to get X-rays done Monday morning and then see my neurosurgeon on Monday afternoon. I am really nervous about this because my neck and back hurt so bad first off, and second because I start a new job on Thursday and I am walking with a limp because of the shooting pain in my left leg. I am hoping that the neurosurgeon puts me on a stronger pain med so I can walk normal and feel some relief. I had Morphine for my LAST kidney stone a few years ago and that was better than the Demerol, to me personally. I have also had Oxycodone for pain before and that is better than ANY Hydrocodone that I have taken. I am just nervous, I suppose and wondering what it is going to take for me to get some relief! I keep getting Lortab 10 and I take 4 at a time and that still doesnt do anything really. I have never had a Vicodin. Are they any good for pain? What is the difference between a Vicodin and a Lortab 10?
