hello. i have these pains in my shoulders, shoulder blades and neck. my doctor told me that i have fibromyalgia. he sent me to a masseuse, physiotherapist and even gym works. he gave me some meds for it like mersyndol forte, but none helped. most nights i would have headaches starting from my right frontal section and will spread all throughout my head. i wonder if my headaches and shoulder pains are connected. i'm suffering from these for 7 months now. i went to a pain specialist and suggested that i have an ultrasound. they found out that i have bursitis so they injected me with cortisone. this helped for a while but after a week the pain came back. i really don't know what's wrong. i am stressed out about my condition because i can't function normally. it's a bit depressing because after working, i'd be really sore that i can't do chores at home. i can't even play with my daughter because the pain stops me. i've been to three specialists but none of them can't put a name on it or explain to me what's happening.

Get an MRI. You may have a herniated disc in your cervical spine. I have one in my C4-C5 with the same symptoms. I also have fibromyalgia, but the symptoms you describe are the ones I have that are disc-related. The treatment, if it's not completely herniated, is a shot of cortisone into the spine. Supposed to help a lot. I wouldn't know, though; I can't have cortisone or any type of steroid.

With fibromyalgia, the pain doctor I went to said he could do nothing for me and sent me on to a rheumatologist. If you have fibromyalgia, this is the type of doctor you should be seeing. I saw a spine specialist about my back; he's the one that ordered the MRI.

I can't work out like normal at a gym, but I do get in as much swim time as I can at our city's therapeutic center in their huge, heated pool. I do a lot of stretching and also daily heat and cold therapy. Also, get plenty of sleep if you have fibro--your body needs a chance to heal every night.

Fibromyalgia shoulder and neck pain
Do get the neck and shoulder pain checked out to see if there is anything there. Make sure there is no soft tissue damage of some kind--only an MRI will show this--not an x-ray. It is also common that people with fibro do not fall into the deep REM sleep mode. That's why you can sleep all night and still sleep the entire next day! Address the sleep problems. I was able to take 1/4 of a flexeril around 6 pm every night and by 9 or 10 I was able to fall asleep. After 3 nights of doing this, I started feeling better. Thank God I didn't have to try sleeping pills that comes with their own set of symptoms/problems. You don't need anymore added to you when you have fibro. Also everyone, watch what you eat--it does matter! Avoid fried foods, processed foods, white bread, caffeine!, and especially junk food and fast food. Just because it is there we do not have to eat it--its killing us! People with fibro have a tendancy to depend on caffiene to keep moving. Eat fresh fruits and veggies, whole grain breads and pastas, avoid coke and diet coke!, grill, broil or bake fish and chicken. Eat nuts. Stretch, soak in hot baths, exercise and sleep. Get your hormones checked (not just the sex hormones)-make sure your metabolism is working correctly. What we eat affects that. Fibro can be controlled without drugs. You just have to find the right doctor to help you. Help yourself! Try to stay positive. People with fibro get depressed and there is plenty of reasons why. Its a day to day struggle. Work with a therapist, an endocrinologist, a rhuematologist, a chiropractor and a nutritionist. Assembly your team and fight. Doctors don't have all the answers! You know your body. Research the way the body works so you can arm yourself with information! Good luck to everyone who hurts. Nobody can truly understand what we go through. The pain is real and so is the emotional baggage that comes with it. Just because we look healthy doesn't mean we aren't sick. Surround yourself with people who believe in you and not people who can and will bring you down. Rise above.
I've had fibro for 10 years and I struggle every day. But I am determined to beat it!
