Q: Hooking up

Has anyone had the experience in your schools of this method of boy-girl "relationships". It has actually replaced dating in many areas in the United States in high schools and colleges.

It goes something like this: The time honored ritual of boys taking girls out on dates and becoming a pair, like boyfriend & girlfriend, has been replaced with "friends with benefits". That is, boys and girls "hooking up" at parties, etc., for a sexual encounter with "no strings attached" i.e., no relationship. Frequently this takes the form of oral sex (boys receiving the bulk of the pleasure), and sometimes anal sex (again, boys receiving the bulk of the pleasure).

Is this or something like it happening in your area?

a lot of the time i see around here boys and girls a like don't want to get into a relationship but still want the thrill and pleasure of sex or sexual acts so yeah they'll meet a guy or girl and "hook up" which could be anything from kissing to sex. it may happen once it may be an ongoing thing

Thanks for your input. Do any of your peers go out on actual dates, like where a boy will call a girl (that he's not in a relationship with) and ask her to go to a movie with him, or something along those lines?

Jacob and I were FWB for about 2 months before we started dating. I honestly don't care. And I don't think it's anyones business whether or not your sexual partners are tied to you in some way.

Yea sort of. People first started this when I was in 9th grade. They would call it being "together" its like dating but not. It's so hard to explain. But there are still a bunch of people who do it the old fashioned way. People are usually together if they aren't really attracted to one another. They just need their quick fix. I think it's kind of an insult to just be together with someone or hooking up with them.

I think so, too. If the girls were getting as much pleasure as the guys and no risks of stds, pregnancy, and emotional hurt, that would be one thing, but they aren't, in many cases. That's my humble opinion of it.

From what I've read, that happens often. It's like there is no official line from hanging out to hooking up to being a couple, unless one of the two people says, "Hey, are we a couple or what?"

that happens SO often. I would hate that. I want to be asked out in a cute way and have an anniversary..I don't want it to just be assumed lol.

well no its wasnt like that really
we already established we loved each other
we already went on dates
acted like we were a couple
looking at us together you would have thought we were together
but we both still had ex's that were "in the way" making it hard to be together

but as of dec 1st of 2006 we were officially togteher as a couple

That's purdy much our story. Neither one of us wanted to get into a relationship because our exs were so messed up, but we loved eachother so we went on dates and fooled around and were basically a couple, but didn't make it official until November 27th

Same here... plus it gave me time to get over my ex, so I was 100% sure of my feelings before making things serious.

my boyfriend and I 'hooked up' I guess you could say.
we never went out for dinners,or went to movies.
we met at work,we had a job that required a lot of travelling and we met on the beach on Vancouver Island,we started talking, started drinking and 3 years later we are still together.
