I'm pretty sure no one will read this comment because it will probably be on the last page but I have been contemplating whether to post on a forum or not for months. I am 20 and have been on birth control since I was 16. I recently made the switch to depo provera because I thought it would better fit my lifestyle. I did not do too much research on it and I wish I did.

If you are considering this shot, please educate yourself on ALL of the side effects. On my first shot, everything was normal. On my second shot, after one month, I spotted for two months. After these two terrible months, it got worst. I have been on my period for 7 weeks now. I also have all the side effects you get with a period: back pain, cramps, mood swings, change in appetite, weight gain.

Women, this contraceptive really alters the way your body functions. My bone density has dramatically dropped which results in excruciating back pain. The torture and pain I have experienced for the last 3+ months is not worth this shot. I hope this helps you in making your decision on which contraceptive to use.

Well unfortunately you wont get the full information unleashed you go to your doctor. If you did go to your doctor they should of mentioned how you bleed until your period stops. This doesn't stop in a week. It actually takes months. I have been bleeding for 3this months non stop almost. But I know why and therefore am not surprise. My spotting is very light, sure is annoying and all but I know why is happening. However, this may not be the best method for you. Always talk to your doctor before making this kind of decisions! Best of luck of course!

well, I've had a good/bad experience with Depo. I haven't gained any weight,(and I was petrified to gain the 30 lbs I lost last year) I haven't been moody, no headaches (which i am very prone to). BUT, I have been spotting none stop for nearly 3 months now. I'm due for my 2nd shot and ot sure what to do. The spotting is mostly light, but I can't keep using tampons, because to be honest, my vagina is getting sensitive and raw from 3 months of daily use. I'm now alternating using liners and pads but HATE that feeling of it flowing.

I don't know what's worse: a week of hell with my period-very painful-very heavy-miss work kinda periods or spotting every single day. How long with this go on for? I can't take another 3 months of constantly having
to wear a pad or tampon.

BUT, on the other hand, NOT having my usual period for the past 3 months has been heaven on earth! Haven't missed a day at work because of explosive period pain. No PMS the week before. It's been good. No side effects except the never ending spotting.

It's killed my sex life though because who wants to have sex when that mess is still going on??

Not sure what I'm going to do..not sure what is right. Try for the 2nd shot and hope the spotting stops? Or go back to regular period hell but only for 4 or 5 days of the month???

I know this is late and I don't know what your decision was but! I understand with the whole bleeding for 3 months! However, I dint bleed at all during my first shot. However two weeks before I got the second one I started spotting and have been spotting since then. I also wear tampons, like you, I can't stand the feeling of the flow. However it does get to start being expensive... anyways! If I were you, the less pain the better lol hope you continue giving depo a chance! Best of wishes!

Depo is from the devil
I took the depo in August and the second one in October. I have been bleeding since August 2. I have bad cramps, old and fresh clotting...This is terrible. Plus I lost 35 pounds 2 years ago, and gained it all back in 4 months from this shot. This is the worst thing I have ever done. And sex is out of the question. I never know when I am going to bleed heavy or just spot. I feel miserable and do not recommend this to anyone.

Well not everyone is the same, however, I do have a question. Why did you get a show on october when you had just gotten one in august?

I am exactly the same. I have been on the Depo shot for about 8 months now (im due for my fourth shot next month). I do not get my full regular period anymore, however I notice I still get cramping at the end of each month along with all those other wonderful menstrual feelings (joy..) but right before I am due to get my next shot each time i begin to spot a little not quiet like a period, and sometimes more of a brownish color. My doctor has said this is completely normal though. Like you however when i first got on the shot I didnt bleed but a week or so after I maybe bled on and off for about a month straight! Horrible! I kept up hope that things would get better because I find the shot the MOST CONVENIENT form ever!!!! and i was right, it all went uphill from there. LOL Smile

Yes ma'am! Exactly! It is completely normal and convenient! People dont give it a chance. If they had been informed by a doctor that is normal they would still be using it. After all the reason why is happening is to completely stop your period!

Don't complain...
If you all had gone to talk to your doctor about what birth control to get and the side affects well none of you would be complaining (well unless you have a serious condition). You must of been aware that spotting was a side affect and that it wouldn't stop until your period was completely gone. So get inform before you make decisions that may affect your life. Is common sense...

I got on the Depo shot for the first time in June. The
2 months later on August 14 I started bleeding and I have bleed til this day. So right now it's been over a month. This shot has done not one good thing for me besides not getting pregnant. A week or two after I got the shot I had sex and it was terrible and very painful. As people call it, I am no longer able to get "wet", or have any type of normal discharge exept from blood. :/ I then I had sex when I was bleeding and it felt a lot better but it still seemed to get painful and my area lately has gotten VERY irritated easily. I have to change my pad now 2-4 times a day, which is affoul. And to add onto this crap I am bi-polar and this shot has caused so many unnecessary fights with my boyfriend, friends, && family. People tell me that I act like the devil. I also have back problems now. I'm always tired. Sick. & in so much pain EVERYWHERE. I feel everyday like this shot is killing me and making me weaker and weaker everyday. So unless if uu like painful sex, pains everyday, and everywhere in youe body, headaches, craps, bi-polarism, tiredness, and nothing but finding blood in your undies, go for it!. I hate this shot. And strongly recommend to stay the he'll away from this crap.!!!!.
