The erratic values of marijuana THC content, whether it be "medical" or recreational continue to make the drug dangerous and unpredictable in effect. In 1997 the delta 9 THC content in seized marijuana drugs was 2.5% but this rose to 7% by 2000, 10.7% by 2002, and 15% by 2004. This massive increase in content may lead to significant and unpredicted side effects. It may be the 600% increase in active drug is so high an increase in just over a few years, that traffic fatalities due to marijuana may be due to the street drug culture failure to appreciate the variations in potency of the drug. The danger of having something labeled "medical" when there are no controls on the content is that people may think the drug may be safe and consistent in content as is expected for prescription drugs. There is therefore nothing "medical" about medical marijuana.

Yes, you make a really great point, algonsdoc, no one should ever drive while taking any kind of medication such as pain killers, relaxants, medical marijuana or cough medicines or after drinking alcohol, etc. Good point also, it should be recognized for its medical properties and legalized for doctors to prescribe so that it can be controlled and monitored. That way people who actually need it for medical purposes will have a safe and legal access to it and it would come with the same wordings on the bottle as sleeping pills, anti anxiety medication, pain relief and such. All valid points. I hardily agree! Smile It should be legalized for doctors to have the opportunity to prescribe it and monitor that proscription. Glad you came around..Peace and Love, HomerX Cool
P.S. And I for one could not be happier about it getting stronger because it is expensive and that way it will take less to get the same relief and would save those of us who use it hundreds of dollars.

The point of the article was that the dosage of active drug can vary widely over time, and also within individual batches. It is playing russian roulette to use any drug that has a 6 fold potency variation.
