Hi. There is a documented procedure for nurses and female practitioners when it comes to touching a males penis. However, I wonder how often a practitioner would stay within the lines of protocol yet still try to have a little fun without getting in trouble. For example, my boyfriend was in the hospital with his leg elevated and each nurse seemed to spend a different length of time doing 'certain things.' Are there any nurses that can address this? there was one nurse that in providing a bath, appeared to do things a little slower, softer and took more time... Can they get away with that? this same nurse would tickle his foot almost all the time while it was elevated in the cast. She would say she's checking his sensitivity... makes me wonder.

I had an exam last week, and was hard as a rock when the doctor was examing me. He asked me to stand up and I kept my hand on my penis and didn't pull my boxer briefs down. He said, "now how can I examine you like that?" I kind of laughed and he told me to just pull them down. Well, my penis slapped against my abs and I was embarassed as hell! He laughed and said not to worry. He took an extra long time examining me and I gradually felt better. He asked me to lie down because he wanted to be sure there wasn't any swelling in my groin. I was wondering why there would be any to begin with, but I did as he asked. That was it, but I sure fantasize about it a lot.

I guess I am more concerned with how often the nurses get away with this. Can any nurses be honest and say how they conduct exams and if some are made intentionally longer.

unbelievably embarassing
i had the most awkward embarassing moment of my life with an elderly female doctore, my parents had changed health insurance and we started at a new family physician. When i was getting my physical for college i had to go see her, I had also been sexually active at the time so when i booked the appointment i requested a full std screening. Long story short it was my first woman doctor and i got an erection on the table, she was nothing but professional at the time and continued her exam. But this was to be the first but not last of my case of premature ejaculation. 5 min into her exam i ejaculated on myself, but once again she continued without making it awkward handing me some paper towels to clean off my leg. it has been 3 years and i have yet to return for a physical because of the extreme embarrasment i faced then and now.

This was a doctor though. Did she do the exam alone or with a nurse in the room. I was more concerned about the interaction with nurses. In the time since my post I have spoken with some nurses and have had a friend who just became one...

Medical exams
My mothers friend was a doctor who always gave school physicals to boys who went out for sports at this particular school. She told my mother some of the funny things that happened when giving these exams. At the time that she gave the exams, she was middle aged but very attractive and often the boys would get erect while she checked them. Boys cannot control an erection, it just happens and you cant stop it. She said that one boy was totaly erect the whole time she was with him.

Erection during physical
When I was 15 and went to a doc for school physical. I had to get totally naked at a part of the exam and I got erection when I had to stand up and he was like check'n my balls. I was totally petrified cause I like was never hard in front of a male and only one girl before. But the total worst thing was that the doc was my girls dad. But I didn't like know that when I got the exam. I was freaked the first time I met him knowing he'd seem me that way.

This doctors perspective is that many of the stories on this thread are just that - stories. When I read the original posting by chuck W though, it did sound credible. There are occasional circumstances when it is necessary or desirable for an individuals penis to be erect, or partially erect. Such as looking for fibroids that might be causing Peyronie's, or the important BC reflex test which can help detect early MS cases. The latter normally works with the penis completely flaccid, but is clearer when the glans is sensitised. Technically speaking patients should be referred to a urologist or spinal unit, but sometimes doctors do initial tests for expediency if they are not sure a referral is justified. Chuck W did not describe what discussion took place, but it would be very unusual if the doctor didn't explain the reason for the test. Checking glans sensitivity doesn't sound quite right to me, although he could have indicated some degree of ED. The method described is the same as is commonly used. I use some gel to make it comfortable and it is rare that there is not an immediate response.

Ok So I'm at my cardiologist's office this past week. After our routine exam, he orders a EKG. A young and attractive medical assistant comes in to perform the test. As she is leaning over me to put the electrodes on me, I can feel her stomach and pubic areas against my hand which is at my side. I wanted to gingerly move my hand against her, but I dared not. In addition, I can feel her breasts rubbing against my stomach. Needless to say my penis gets erect, and I feel it bulging through my pants. The heavy electrode harness is laying on my stomach just above the raging erection that I had. Her hand would touch the top of my penis as she would "adjust" the harness. I can see this smile on her face the whole time she ran the test (times 2). It was all I could do not to ejaculate. During check out she gives me the biggest smile ever.

When i was 11, i was having an exam and it was a male doctor who was hot as, not that im gay but he took his shirt and his pants. He was wearing boxerbriefs just like me and he looked hot as. we were wearing the same boxers with the same print and brand. (BONDS)He examined my body and he leant over and i could feel his penis touching mine. I got an erection and i could feel his too. When he examined my penis, he did what a normal person does. The testicles, scrotum, foreskin etc. Because i starte puberty and i had hair all around my penis and on my balls, he said "Youll get a lt of hair when your 18." i was dumb and said, how much? He pulled down his boxerbriefs and there was quite a lot of hair. He talked about how his one looked the same as mine when he was 11. It was awkard amd we compared penises. I had a big erection and he got one too. I ejaculated on him but he said it was normal.

I was experiencing lower abdominal pains and I scheduled an appointment with my doctor. I found out he had retired so I made an appointment with the doctor who took over his practice. The doctor who took over the practice is female. I was waiting in the exam room for the doctor and was feeling a little anxious since I had never been examined by a woman. She came in and I told her about my stomach pains. She gave me the standard examination as well as checking my lower abdomen. The last thing she did was the hernia check. She asked me take off my pants. I dropped my pants and just stood there because I wasn’t sure she wanted me to pull down my underwear. After a few seconds of her staring down at my crotch she got down on one knee and attempted to perform the hernia check though the leg opening in my underwear. When she realized that wasn’t going to work , she put her hands on the waistband of my underwear and slowly started to pull them down. This made me feel a little uncomfortable so I quickly pulled down my underwear exposing my erect penis to her. My erection was only inches from her face and what made it even more embarrassing is that my penis is only 4” fully erect. She then performed the hernia check (turn and cough, turn and cough). I was afraid to look down. When she finished, I quickly pulled up my pants and noticed that she was looking at my erect penis. She started to write on my chart and ask me some additional questions. I guess I was still a little freaked about her seeing my erection because I was standing up instead of sitting down on the exam table. She must have noticed I was nervous because she told me I could sit down. When it was time for me to leave the exam room, I thanked her and she looked me right in the eye and smirked and smiled. I guess that was just a little parting reminder that she saw my little erect penis.

My doctor recently sent me to have an ultrasound scan of the scrotum after finding a small lump behind my testicles. She was sure it was nothing to worry about but its best to know for certain.
At the hospital the nurse that showed me into the examination room said that she would be performing the ultrasound scan.
There was already a younger nurse in the room. I was told to “remove my clothes” I undressed slowly not sure whether she meant completely naked.
The younger nurse could see I was hesitating and she said “everything please” so that confirmed it.
They kept me standing completely naked in front of them while they looked at my notes and asked me a few questions about my medical history.
Eventually I was told to lie on the couch and put my hands behind my head.
The older nurse put some gel on her hand and then rubbed it onto my scrotum. With both hands she began to gently pull and move about both testicles, telling the younger nurse this was to loosen the shrivelled scrotum.
She kept pushing down where the base of the penis joins the scrotum causing my foreskin to pull back, this made my penis grow and by the time my foreskin was right back, I was fully erect.
She began to perform the scan moving the ultrasound pen all over my scrotum, telling the nurse what she was doing and looking at on her monitor.
A few times she took hold of one testicle and rolled it around between her fingers and thumb, this made my shrinking penis fully erect again each time.
The examination lasted about twenty minutes, most of that time I spent fully erect and trying not to ejaculate while she fiddled about.
Her report was ‘very’ thorough covering testicle dimensions, scrotal pearls, mild hydrocele, even “a slight lateral curve in erect penis” was mentioned!

I’m glad to say that the lump was a tiny epididymal cyst, nothing to worry about but worth keeping an eye on.

Erection during physical
If you get an erection with a female doctor -- why not go to a male doctor instead?

I can't understand why there are two females in the exam room when a male is having such an exam done. Some guys seem to think this is exciting but it seems pretty humiliating to me being that you're the only one naked. Are there usually two males present when a female is having her privates checked?

The general rule is when a male examines a female, there will be another female present or if that is not possible, TWO additional males in place of the one female.

Now if we reverse the genders, that is what should occur when a female examines a male.

A commonly employed exception is husband and wife. It would be hard to convince a jury that you stood there and let a Dr. touch your wife inappropriately and did nothing to stop it. Reversing the genders works here too.

This has two major reasons: first, the patient can't claim inappropriate touching and second, The practioner, if so inclined, would find it nearly impossible to be inappropriate.

Hope this sheds some light...

I had a friend in school who had to have a sports physical, and a female RN did the hernia check. He said that he started to get an erection and she actually slapped his penis causing enough pain to subdue the erection!
Why does a boy in high school have to have a woman doing his sports physical and causing him this embarassment? He felt like he had done something "dirty" being slapped.

I don't get it either. If I tried to take my boys to a female practitioner for a sports physical they would slap me upside my head. They know its know its just not right and I didn't even have to tell them.

an erection during my physical did my doc handle okay?
I have a full and complete physical by my family doc every year 6 months (I am taking meds regularly and I restored my foreskin)! When it came time to examine my genitals he started asking questions regarding my restoration progress. While I was relating information regarding my restored foreskin I began to get hard (the doc was pulling my foreskin back and forth to check mobility and any phimosis) then he asked if he could take the opportunity while I was erect to examine my penis to see how the restoration is coming along. I replied 'Go ahead I'm eager to have a professional opinion about my erection with restored foreskin'. He was still slowly moving my foreskin back and forth which produced a raging erection
. He admitted he thought I had a small penis at first also said he's never seen a grower like me apprx 4x the flaccid length. He said since I'm a grower I don't have enough erect coverage and that I should continue restoring until I have at least 1/2 of my head covered with foreskin when fully hard. He then continued examining my testes and such. I thanked him for the penis size compliment but told him I would rather be an inch less in length and an inch less circumference then I would have lots of foreskin! My doc said you don't want too much cause it gets I the way; he said he's uncircumcised and has very long foreskin and admitted that it sometimes makes sex awkward! We had a great talk about my efforts to become uncircumcised and he answered question about foreskin. He also said he considered circumcision when he was younger but his friends talked him out of it.

After the physical I thanked him for making me feel comfortable when I became erect. I also thanked him for sharing his personal information. He replied 'no problem as long as it helped you out' I asked if he could be thorough with my next phsical in 6 months. He told me if you can get erect next time he would!

I get what you're saying here.

To add to this is, the Doctor has the power to do his job but the patient is the "customer" and is in full control of what will and will not happen during an exam. I see so many posts in this forum where the health care provider (some are just RN's or PA's) telling the customer that they are going to do thus and so instead of saying "we would like to do thus and so, are you fine with this"?

Telling the customer that they are going to do something can lead the customer to believe that they have no choice in the matter. Too many people put up with so many unnecessary exams because they don't pay attention to their own health.

One that comes to mind with me is testicular exams. You don't need to go to a Doctor for it unless you find a lump that lasts more than around two weeks!! Why aren't men doing their own at home? It takes a few seconds and it will save men from an unnecessary awkward situation.

Unnecessary prostate exams are another issue but I won't get into that right now.

You make a good point. People should take a more active role in their healthcare.

All too often though, the dynamic of the interaction is that the patient feels rather powerless and just accepts whatever the Dr says or does without question. They feel that the Dr is an expert (and s/he is-but that doesn't equate with always right)

It can be compared to an electrician or plumber who is called in to fix a problem. Do you question their plan or just accept what the expert says is needed to repair the problem? Again the dynamic is that the perceived expert has most of the power in the interaction.

A healthy measure of assertiveness is a good thing, but many find it difficult in the Dr.s office. This is especially true when the problem/exam involves the reproductive system.

As to unnecessary exams, The insurance companies are helping to decrease the occurence of these. Some Dr.s are also just more thorough than others.

The take home message here is that you should consider your Dr. as a hired expert like a plumber or electrician. Not to disrespect them, but the patient must take primary responsibility for health maintenance and consult the physician when expert help is needed. DON'T be hesitant to question the Dr. about the details of the exam/diagnosis/plan of treatment. This is what you are paying for.

HEY ANONYMOUS !!!
As the mother of a Female Dr. It is not normal for a nurse to touch your penis or feel your testicles. You need to tell your Dr. ABSOLUTELY, NOT NORMAL !!!!
That is part of a Dr's physical.

Im gay,35 years, and had a testicular ultrasound last month with a female nurse and got a full erection, its impossible not to, have someone hubbing your balls with gel for 20 minutes and not got a erection, she was verry professional, just put a towel over my penis letting only my testicles out, so my erection was cover all the time, when they done they give you another towel to clean yourself and leave the room for you to do it....had another genital exam a week a go, with a male doctor and got another erection when he was doing the exam on my balls, I got a little embarressed, he told me not to worry about that, verry normal, even exam a curvature that I have when erect.
