Hi Guys.

I have been trying to gain weight for months now and not having any luck. Im a 17 year old male, standing at 5”11 and I weigh 9 and half stone. Im for ever eating, I eat loads, the amount I eat I should be fat. I went doctors and didn’t have much help, she said I looked healthy so don’t worry.. Ive tried all sorts to try and gain weight… eating eggs, cheese, tuna, steaks, bread, rice all sorts I have even tried weight gain shakes but had no luck. I just can’t gain weight. I don’t exercise much, just lift weights for hour everyday, I don’t exercise much, the rest off the time I sit on my backside in front of a pc. I so want to gain weight and sit on the 11 stone mark but no matter how much I eat I cannot gain weight. Can anybody try and help me out here as I so want to gain weight??

Thanks

Maybe you just have a really high metabolism. I know they have pills to make some people's metabolism speed up. Maybe you should check for reverse medicine or something to make it slow down?

Why are your trying to gain weight? Physical appearance? Medical reason?

Appearance. People say im fine and I am not that skinny, but I think I am and would love to put some more meat on my face, arms e.t.c. It all started years ago, I was never skinny then I started smoking for 2 years and lost loads of weight and I never eat much. I stopped smoking a year ago now and my weight has not gained from that either.

Help would be appreciated as would love to gain weight.

Thanks

Protein shakes, possibly might help. Whey protein is used frequently by body builders. Soy protein if you are allergic to milk. Fairly inexpensive and great tasting when mixed with the proper ingredients. Favorite whey shake =

Glass of milk
Chopped ice
Banana
Peanut butter
scoop whey powder

Nice in the mornings for breakfast. But eat when you're hungry. Don't force it!

Hmmm.

I only get really hungry before i go bed as my body clock is messed up as i dont go bed till 4-5am in the morning. This has been going on years. If i didnt force it i would just eat breakfast, lunch and tea. As if im forcing it im eating loads more.

Forgot to add, i have tried protein shakes and had no luck.

Any help would be apprechaited.

Have you seen a nutritionist? From your language, it seems like you're in the UK. Is there a resource you can use?

How about going to your GP and asking for advice and a referral. I bet s/he can arrange for you to talk to a nutritionist.

How much should i be eating a day? Someone did give me a link to a website for people which are hard weight gainers, and what they did was keep eating meals every 3 hours and was working out as muscle weighs more then fat.

Some bloke mentioned he put on 39LBS in 13 weeks. But none off them mentioned how much they eat and forced them selfs to eat.

It costs 3500 calories to gain one pound. That means, in order to gain one pound a
week, you have to consume 500 extra calories every day.

Your GP doesn't seem much help - I agree with the idea of him/her referring you to a dietician or nutritionist - at 17 you still have a bit more time to fill out and buff up.

You were wondering...The RDA of an adult male, i know is 2500calories but I don't really think that applies to many because they also recommend regular excersice and well.. people really dont.
