Q: active mono virus

I was diagnosed with mono a few days ago, and I was curious. When I'm fully recovered, I know that the virus will stay in my system for the rest of my life, but is there any way of knowing when the virus is active? I read that you don't show symptoms again, so how would I know so I don't infect others?
