We're trying to cut down on the heating bill, so no heater during the day and it gets set to 70 at night ;-;

I'm FREEZING. Jay's all bundled in a sleeper and a thick body suit thing... at least she's toasty.

You shouldn't set the thermostat below 60 during the day because the heater will have to work harder later to heat the house to 70.

Make sure to keep all doors to unused rooms closed and the heats off in those rooms. That can save you some money. But heat off when the temps are low is not a good idea.

It was in negative digits last night here. I never turn my heat above 70 degrees...NEVER. At night I turn it down to 63. Heating fuel (kerosene) is $3.24 a gallon and my tank is 250 gallons to fill. It's pretty crazy.
Another reason I can't wait for summer.

the temperatures in my town right now are about -42 degrees celsius(not sure what that would be in F)
I am thankful that all my utilities are included in rent so I'm not too worried about turning the heat up...I like to be comfortable.

It NEVER gets that cold. Thank god. It almost never even gets into the low 30's at night.

I am in the exact same situation.

I just had this conversation with my husband, about conserving heat. We ran out of oil today and luckily the oil guy brought some over, even though it's Sunday. Here's how much I had to pay, because I had to pay the balance I still owed:

November to January: (past bill) 1800
Today, filled both tanks (500 gallons) 1500
total $3300.00

I was horrified.

WOW! I have ran out of oil before and it's an awful feeling. I woke up one morning and my house was 40 degrees. My poor Beta fish had died. It was effin cold!

I would seriously cry if I ever got hit with a bill like that. I am on a budget plan. I pay $265 a month every month. It still doesn't cover how much fuel we go through.
I honestly don't know how the elderly or people on very strict budgets do it. We don't have a huge excess of money, but I really feel for the people that honestly live week to week.
