Q: Hair Help
asked by: OctoberBaby06 on January 25th, 2008

I know there have been other threads made like this & you've all given good advice so now I need some help! I've never had my hair highlighted/dyed/anything professionally before & with income tax money I'm going to treat myself. I want to get highlights but don't know what color or anything. I'm no good with figuring out what colors look good on me & all that Embarassed

So here's my hair Very Happy

& here's the back, it's a little longer since this picture was taken..

Any suggestions?

If you get highlights will you be able to continue to get them once your hair grows out? The reason i ask is because if you don't want to have to get it redone all the time than I wouldn't do anything too drastic. That way when your roots come in it won't look funny. Like pinks or reds fade really fast...just an example

If I were you I would do so really nice platinum highlights......like so blond that it looks like you just spent a few months on the beach..lol And I would make them chunky around your face.

I am sure though that you will get a whole lot of ideas from the girls on here:)

(You didn't ask for cut advice, but I'll give it anyway just since we're talking about hair Smile)

I'd have them part your hair more to the left or right, whichever you prefer & then cut it so you have side swiped bangs (I'll show a picture at the bottom) & then get either little brown highlights all throughout your hair, or really really blonde highlights like the others suggested. Last time I had my hair done blonde I also had it brown underneath. I think that'd look really cute since you have layers & you'll be able to see it. Hope that helped?

Kind of like that? (Just the bangs I mean)

Do you think I'd be able to pull off bangs like that though? I want to try new things like that with my hair but I guess I'm kinda afraid lol..

i agree with terra on the bangs

ok michelle here i go LOL
you would look great with short layers with side bangs (either way you can always flip it) i would dye it a chesnut brown and get some carmel and blonde highlights. that way when your roots grow back in it will be more blended nd not just one color sitting there ya know? if that makes any sense? lol

and cut about an inch off
Smile

I am in no way an expert on hair so I'm not about to give advice.. I just put mine in a ponytail all the time! The other girls have good ideas tho! I did want to say though that if you always part your hair in the same place side bangs might not work out well. I tried side bangs and could not get them to lay right for the life of me because myhair was used to being part in the middle. I tried clipping them to the side when i was at home and stuff and nothing could help!

when that happens (where your bangs wont stay down) get your hair wet THEN part it to the side while its wet Very Happy that way it will stay layed down Smile

I really think that Suzy's idea would be nice but it would be really hard to maintain...its tough when you are changing your natural hair color and than adding highlights into the mix. At least if you were to keep your natural color and than just do highlights of some sort it would definitely be easier and you could go longer in between salon visits.

I have really dark hair(dark brown) and I decided to go and get highlights (caramel kinda blond) and now I am kicking myself in the butt because I have to go and get them redone every 10wks because I can't handle it when my roots start coming in. At a 100 bucks a pop it gets pretty costly Sad

I definitely think you could pull off the bangs. I think anyone can pull off the bangs, you just gotta try! I really think you'll like it once you have them, I really love having bangs, it makes me feel like I have more of a hair style rather than just having my hair "there" ya know?

You have a high forehead, so I think bangs would look good on you.

You're so pretty!

Hmm well maybe I'll get brave someday & try the bang thing! I'm still debating on the highlight colors.. What if I got some platinum blonde & some carmel? Would that look stupid? I don't want to dye my whole head, I'd just rather get some highlights.. But now I'm looking at maybe possibly doing something like this,

but not with red, just brown maybe. What do you guys think?

If I were you, I'd get them dyed out.

Yep! I'm going to get it done like it is in that picture of Christina, Buuuuuut instead of red, I'm going to get brown & some carmel put in. I'm also getting the rest of my hair lightened a little bit since my hair is practically brown. I'm excited!

I'll be getting it done when our income tax refund comes back & Shane said he'd give me money every 6 weeks or so to keep up on it!
