Q: want to support baby

My girlfriend and I want to get married. Not only because we're having a baby together, but we love each other and have been together for a little over 2 years now.

Now I'm expecting this child to be mine. In fact, if it isn't, I'll be heartbroken. If I get married and it turns out the child isn't mine, they'll go after me for child support, because my name would go on the birth certificate and I would be presumed as the father.

And if I don't get married and if the child is mine ( hopefully ), then they'll go after me for child support, since we aren't living together or married.

I'm not trying to get out of paying for my son (((((( yes we had the ultrasound the 16th. early than we thought and it turns out we're having a boy! =]. )))) but I rather support my son along the way rather than lump sums out of the paycheck.

And my girlfriend is on medic aid and WIC. Is it true that they'll make me remberse them for all the money of the birth care cost, doctor cost. Basically, thousands of dollars? Because that would kind of defeat the purpose of MEDIC AID.

I don't know any info about the latter part of your post, but I'll look into it. Someone who knows will probably be along soon, though. Btw, who told you that about reimbursing?

About paternity, why do you think there is a chance it is not yours?

P.S. did your gf's parents ever move away?

No, my girlfriends parents never moved away. They couldn't afford it anyways, liked I knew.

I'm about 85% sure the baby is mine.

And about the reimbursing, I searched the internet and I saw it on couple sites.

thats all depends on your income and if your job offers medical insurance. WIC will prob not change as my husband and I are married and qualify. The insurance I know can be terminated if they find that you can get insurance for small percentage of your check, if its expensive and you make below a certain amount they will continue medicaid coverage.

Who is THEY in your post about coming after you for child support if you get married? are you saying if the baby turns out to not be yours you will get a divorce? Because as long as you are married you wont have a court order for child support.

If she's on Medicaid then it should pay for everything. WIC won't make you reimberse anything. I am on it and I have Medicaid so I know that for sure. If you guys have been together for 2 years then why are you thinking the baby isn't yours?

My firends son had to repay the state for the medical expenses his girlfirend incurred for the delivery when she was on medicaid..so that is possible. In some states, if you are both living together..married or not..the court will not charge you with child support since you are already paying your part to support the child. Check with your local Friend of the Court on that issue.

Why is this? How important is it to you to know for sure?

It depends on the state you live in, as everyone before me has said. Where I am from, they won't come after you for medical reimbursement.
