Morning after pill after ovulation Posted: 01-24-08 14:32pm
Sorry if this is kind of long. I need to
know if the morning after pill works if I
have already ovulated. I ov. on the 10th
of Jan. Sex 4x on 11,12. Took the pills
on 12th & 13th. I know it cant stop an
ovulation that has already occurred but
will it stop the implantation. My period
is due the 28th. (im very regular) but
today I had a smidgen of odd looking
blood. It was a dark blob with a little
mucus. Is this normal for the MAP??? Or is
it implantation bleed??

No, the morning after pill does not work
if you have already ovulated, since all it
is prescribed and designed to do is prevent
ovulation - just like all forms of
hormonal birth control. It is not proven
nor meant to prevent implantation or kill
the zygote.
If you took the morning after pill, there
is no way to predict when your next period
will come, as these pills mess up your
cycle. Your next cycle may be late or
early.
How do you know you ovulated on the 10th
of January? Have you been careful tracking
your cervical mucous, temperature, and
figured out the approximate length of your
cycles to know when to test for
ovulation?
If not, then you probably don't have much
of a clue when you ovulated. It normally
happens 2 weeks before your period, so for
most women the only way to say "I know
when I may have ovulated" is to look back
two weeks from her last period.
That all said, if it has been two weeks
since the last act of unprotected sex,
then you can take a pregnancy test and it
will be accurate. I don't know when you
had sex so I can't tell you if you are
able to test yet.

MAP does not prevent implantation, sorry
:/
That is a common misconception!
It can cause an increase in cervical
fluids though, and it could still prevent
fertilization.
It is less effective when taken after
ovulation.

I do keep track of cervical mucus changes
& I have a ovulation/period calendar.
My biggest clue however is that I have
been experiencing middleschmertz for 6
years now. I had sex on the 11th &
12th. (4x) so not quite 2 weeks. Thanks
for your info. I was starting to consider
this method an abortion rather than birth
control.

An abortion can only occur AFTER
implantation, medically speaking.
MAP does not prevent implantation.
IT CAN affect the motility of sperm too,
BTW. The increase of cervical fluids and
fluids inside of the uterus can prevent
sperm form reaching an egg.

How can it affect the sperm if I received
sperm on Friday & didnt take the pill
til Sunday??? Dont they move faster than
that???

Yeah, the morning after pill definitely
isn't an abortion. I'm glad to hear you
actually are monitoring your body;
it's good to do! Many girls come on here
and say "I ovulated!" and really have no
idea what they're talking about.
To my knowledge the sperm take a few days
to get to the fallopian tubes.
