Q: symptoms from Medical Abortion

I'm going back in for a 2 week check-up with my gyno next Friday, but I'm just looking for more information in the meantime.

I had a medical abortion on Dec 28th, but with continued bleeding and heavy cramping for more than 2 weeks (the cramping was really concerning me) I decided to go see my gyno on Jan 15th.

On Jan 16th I had a D&C because of well-defined tissue still in my uterus. The cramps were instantly gone and the bleeding was light for the next few days.

My concern is the color and consistency of the "bleeding" now. Both several days after the medical as well as now (after the D&C) I feel like I'm having more of a discharge than bleeding. It's more of a light orange color and really is the consistency of what a thin yougart would be. It is not heavy, but it has been consistent. I probably change a pantyliner three times a day. When I go to the bathroom I sometimes still see bits and pieces of what look like tissue but they are the same color as this discharge, not red like the initial tissue I saw.

I started birth control for the first time about two and a half weeks ago and I'm wondering if any of this could be side effects from the new hormones?

As I said, I'll be going back to my gyno is just over a week and I'll definitely be asking her, but if these symptoms are similar to any other woman I'd love to know.

When you first start birth control it will definitely cause some unusual bleeding and spotting, and it can thin or thick.

Menstrual blood comes in ALL colors and consistencies.

MEDICAL ABORTION causes WAY more bleeding than surgical abortion. 2-3 weeks of bleeding is actually NORMAL for that kind of abortion.

I work in abortion, and I tell women that surgical is a LOT better than medical abortion. We give IV sedation to all women, so it is basically painless, and the bleeding is a lot lighter.

I wish they would have informed you of what to expect. 9-21 days of bleeding is to be expected with medical abortion.

ALL women that ahve a medical abortion are supposed to have a "Re check" at the clinic in 1 week-2 weeks because medical abortion has a high failure rate.
