I have strep B and genital herpes? I have been researching home and water births. But they are only safe if you are low risk.....Would these two things make me high risk?

I think herpes MIGHT make you at-risk, but I'm not totally sure. How far along are you? I would think your doctor would have already told you if you were high-risk or not at a prenatal visit.

I don't think either thing makes you high risk. I think what makes you high risk is a previous premature baby, leaking of waters, advanced maternal age, and I'm at a loss for more...

I do not think either makes you high risk. You do need to get antibiotics for the Strep B for the health of the baby. As for the Herpes, you should try getting on some anti-virals so you do not have an outbreak near birthing time and pass it on.

You should reasearch facilities that do water births so that you can be safe and have a natural experience.

yeah my 1st drs appt is on Friday, but i have been doing a lot of research as to what I want for me and my baby. That way I can be prepared to voice my concerns to my doctor. I would really love to have a water birth. Its something I have always thought about and that calls to me. But if its not safe I will not do it. I hope my doctor will be understanding.

Thanks for the replys ladies.....oh I am only 8 weeks.

I know Strep B they don't like not having you at the hospital so they can give you antibiotics via IV. I'm not sure about the herpes, you're definitely gonna have to ask your doctor about that. I know some STDs can be transferred to your baby through a vaginal birth, but I'm not 100% if herpes is one of them.

i think your fine, from what I've heard about herpes & vaginal birth, its a very low low rate that you can pass it to your baby and thats if your having an outbreak during the time of delivery. I'd ask your Dr. to make sure. As for strep B, they will give ya an IV for that in the hospital.
