He opened up to me tonight and cried. Sad

It really hit him today. He couldnt get out of bed to go to work, scared to leave the house and worst of all he is scared to hold his 5 week old daughter.

i dont know what to do..he knows that he needs professional help but whether or not he seeks it is another thing.

Any suggestions you can give me to help him through this would be apprecieated!!

well the best thing you can do is to listen and talk to him. i know thats what really helps me when travis talks or just listens to me. depression SUCKS. he might be feeling the aftershoock of everything thats just happened. women can get PPD but men can also get the baby blues.

he does need help. but some people dont realize or want help. he can always go talk to a counselor or a dr. and even get on anti depressants if thats his choice. no one can make him do anything and thats the good thing about it. he can always say "no" to any suggestion so really he has control over the whole situation. talking to a theripist might just help him alot to maybe get some better ideas of what he should do.

obviously he does want some kind of hep because hes reaching out to you for it. which is the first step and a very good thing. you can offer him help its just up to him to take it

im sorry
i hope he feesl better soon

Depression
Alot of times the best thing you can do for a depressed person is let them be. Alot of times they just need to "change the channel" in their minds. And because depression comes in waves, it must be endured. For me, I like to take walks or get some form of exercise because it elevates my mood; although sometimes when you're depressed you feel fatigue so you don't want to do anything.

Give him space, let him approach you when he wants to, and try to not act like you feel sorry for him; just tell him "it will pass" and carry on until he starts to feel better.

As far as medication goes, alot of them have side effects that sometimes seem as bad as the depression. I like the old tricyclic medications; their primary side effect is sleepiness whereas the newer types an antidepressants seem to have alot of strange and uncomfortable side effects that make it hard to take. The one exception is prozac, which i think is ok, but for some people it can make you have trouble sleeping.

I'm sure this was little help, but I've suffered from depression myself, still do, and I wanted to offer some advice.
