Squish it out?
Posted: 01-22-08 18:38pm

I had my first mammogram done about three years ago, and they found calcifications. They did a surgical biopsy (my breasts were too tiny for the needle biopsy) and everything was fine.

I went again yesterday for my second mammogram. They had lost my original "baseline" films, but they took a couple of pictures and sent me home.

Today, they called me and said I have density in the same breast where I had the biopsy. They want me to come in next week to "squish it out." What does that mean? I have an appointment at 2:00 for the "squishing," and another appointment at 3:00 for an ultrasound.

I think it's stupid, and I want to call to cancel. I have no history of breast cancer in my family, and my breasts are truly tiny!

Just because you have no history of breast cancer, doesnt' mean you cannot get it. Additionally, tiny breasts don't mean you cannot get cancer.

I'm not familiar with the terms you are using - squishing it out - but I think you should keep this appointment for your own health and peice of mind.

I am thinking the "density" is actually scar tissue from the surgical biopsy. Sad And I can't imagine what "squishing it out" means.

I just wanted to clarify for anyone who was wondering . . .

"Squish it out" was just the appointment setter's indelicate way of saying that they needed to take more pictures, but with some different "utensils" that made it a tiny bit more intense. I had an ultrasound too, and I did fine with all of it.

They're pretty sure the density is from scar tissue, (just as I thought,) but they want me to go back in six months anyway.
