Q: bleeding after birth

I had my son on January 9th and I'm still bleeding but not very much, if anything I'm mostly spotting now. Is the average bleeding time 2 weeks? Also, why do I have to wait 6 weeks before I can douche, have sex, and use tampons? Thanks! Smile

they say you can bleed for up to 6 weeks. My friend didn't stop completely until about exactly 6 weeks, but everyone is different. Your body is still recovering from pushing a watermelon through your legs Very Happy. You basically did a full marathon that happens to be accompanied by bleeding AND lost probably 10lbs doing just that. Your vagina has been stretched (lovely to think about I know) plus you had a episiotomy AND tear, so that's still healing, which takes about 6 weeks. When you get a cut, you're not gonna want to poke and prod it, especially with vinegar Sad. Again, I'm no expert, but that's to the best of my knowledge.

I went for 3 weeks, and I've had occasional spotting but it's been a few days since the last bit.

Oh, and you're not even going to WANT to do any of that stuff for the first few weeks because your poor cootchie is going to be so sore. It's been through hell!

But they say six weeks because, even though the rips and tears on the outside of your vagina are mostly healed, you're at risk for an infection on the inside. That's why they say to wait until after your 6 weeks check up, so your doctor can be sure you're all healed up on the inside.
