Hi, I am new to the forum and I have a few questions I am interested in asking some of you...

My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for about 6 months now. I have been charting periods and using the -14 days rule, but without success. My periods are relatively regular although pretty light.

I just started using BBT to track ovulation. I know you are supposed to take your temp as soon as you wake up before you do anything... but I occasionally hit the snooze button a couple times before I can rouse myself to do the temp thing. Lazy, I know... but can your temp be affected by merely being partially awake and "Snoozing"?

Also, my thermometer reset itself to farenhiet the other day, instead of celcius. I though it would be an obvious conversion... but it appears that my temp dropped .4 degrees with the conversion... from 36.2 C to 35.8C(96.5F)... Does that sounds like a lot? I should be close to OV, but I have totally confused myself.

Last off, does anyone else have thyroid issues. I am currently being treated for Hypo thyroid and my thyroid levels are totally in the normal range. Would this be affecting fertility? I was diagnosed last May (which was also when I went off the pill)... and my ranges were brought into normal by September. My doctor never seemed concerned about the fact that I was trying to get pregnant during this time frame and just mentioned getting pregnant takes about 6 months to a year for the average couple.

Anyway, I am looking to chat with others who are trying. I am getting a bit worn out by well intentioned friends and family who are asking us when WE are going to get pregnant. (Especially since a SIL of mine got pregnant in the true Knocked Up film fashion last year)... trying to push jealousy and bitterness aside. Confused

Welcome to the forum!!! I am Amy, this is mine and my husband's 2nd month trying. I am sorry I can't be of real help for any advice, because I am still learning. But I can relate with the um, jealousy and bitterness...EVERYONE around me is freaking pregnant!! It is obnoxious! But, if you ever want to just talk, I am here, you can pm me anytime!! Good luck trying to conceive and have fun "baby-dancing"!!!

I am not sure how much your temperature is affected by your snoozing before taking it. I don't think you can be sure about that, so I would just do my very best to take it as soon as I wake up. Why did your thermometer convert like that? If something is wrong with it, just get a new one.

If your doctor is not concerned and your thyroid levels are being kept in the normal range, you are probably fine. You really won't know anything until you have charted a couple of cycles, but I'd say that your treatment is fine and won't interfere.

As far as being jealous goes, I feel your pain! My SIL is five months pregnant. It's tough, but I just remember that I have a new family member on the way and that matters too. Plus, you should focus on yourself. Your SIL obviously got pregnant in a way that isn't preferable. Keep yourself ready and remember that being prepared for parenthood is really important!

Thanks for your replies and support.

As to why the thermometer reset itself, I think I must have pushed the button in the dark too hard and it switched from C to F... since it beeps when it gets the reading, I don't always turn on the light to look at it on the weekend... I just knew I could retrieve the data later in the morning when I really got up!!

Can you tell I am not a morning person? I will try to be a little more diligent though and avoid the snoozing!

As for the jealousy... I was totally bummed I admit, and it didn't help that my husband was her birth coach... but we talked about it and since his sister has no one to support her, he had to step in and help her. The baby has since arrived and although he had a few initial issues, he is finally out of the hospital and getting to know his mom.

Hi, Im Heather. My husband and I have been actively trying since August last year. I tried for a while before that but I had to take a 4 month break, so I started counting all over.

As far as your temp goes, you should be ok with the snoozing...I am the queen of snooze. I think the general goal it to get your temp before you rise out of bed. So just make sure you take it before you get up in the am. If you are looking for a site to keep track of your cycles, I would recommend fertilityfriend.com. A lot of the girls here use that and it seems to be helpful. If you want, there is a sticky that you can post a link to your chart so that it is easy for others to find it and give you advice.

I know what you mean about the jealousy thing. I get teary eyed every time I see someone who is pregnant...stupid I know, but its hard sometimes.

Good luck and welcome to the forum. The girls here are really nice and full of helpful information.

I use an ovulation tracking software which is good for at least tracking periods. It also forecasts ovulation, but my husband thinks it is a little off... and this month... looking at the details from BTT.. I think he is right. I think it is averaging my periods a little shorter (and it is making my dates off by about 48-72 hours). Also based on my CM, the ovulation dates are not coinciding with appropriate CM levels.

As for BBT I am still just using a tracking sheet from online...

Interesting enough... I have had temps below the lowest recorded on the chart. (like it stops at 36 C and I have had 35.8C).

I am really interested in talking to others in the same situation as me and my husband. Thanks again for all your comments.

As I side note, I can't believe I am talking about my CM with strangers!! Embarassed Shocked Very Happy

Onwards and upwards... I am looking forward to chatting with you all!

I use that sight too and the ovulation date isn't exactly reliable. It's right in general about the week you might have a possibility of getting pregnant, though, so it's kinda useful.

Fertility Friend and charting temps will give you the best window of when you are going to ovulate. After a few months of charting, you will begin to really tell when you are going to ovulate.
