Milk should I pump? I start school tomorrow, and Thomas will be watching Dante from 7a-12p on Mondays, 8a-12p Tuesdays and Thursdays and 7a-10a on Wednesdays. I can't figure out how many ounces I should leave him with each day. He's 6 weeks old. But I really don't know how much he eats at each feeding and he eats about every 1 1/2-2 hrs for about 20 mins at a time. Any ideas??

Wow this is a hard question. I don't know how you are going to manage getting enough right away, so you might have to supplement with formula.

If you think you have extra milk after feeding him, pump the rest out and save that, plus every time he would have to eat and you are not with him, pump your milk and give yourself about 30 minutes to do it and what you get is what you get. It will be harder to have let-down for a pump and not being around the baby will make it harder too.

I would say that you should have at least 3 ounces to give him for each feeding. If he is not finishing all 3 ounces after the first few feedings, then you can start backing down.

I had to pump when I was at school and work too.. I just pumped until nothing more came out! About 30 minutes or so. I had a pretty good supply so I could get about 4 or more ounces everytime which was plenty for us and I froze the extra for him to have. At about 6 weeks they shouldn't need bottles of more then about 3 ounces every feeding or so. Make sure you pump often so your supply doesn't dry up I'd say every two hours or so would be good.

breastmilk stays good for like a month in the freezer so Id say just pump as much as possible. They sell special bags to put the milk in and then in the freezer

Ya I actually think it stays good longer then that but I cant remember for sure! And they do sell special bags, make sure when you thaw the milk you are careful though I know even with special bags sometimes when the milk expanded and that got moved around in the freezer the corners would split open a little so when I went to thaw it, it ran everywhere!
