Q: Syrup of Ipecac

I was wondering for all the moms or moms to be, have u heard of this ? Syrup of ipecac? I was reading about it and it says we should have it handy at all times in case of accidental poisining of the baby...At first I was liek omg, my baby isnot going to get poisined, but then I thought hey, its always better safe than sorry....

Do u plan on keeping this around or not?....

That syup is used in the movie all I wanna do its a good movie you should check it out and I yes I already keep it in the house

Well I just read some more about it and it says its highly dangerous to give if the child is under age one, and should rarely b used at home anyways...So I think ill sit that one out...Nevermind

Its good for mostly 2-4 year olds but if you need to give it to a little one be careful with whatever it was they swallowed as sometimes you cant give them that syrup.....Dont worry jordan, dont have to worry about that for some time

Parent's Mag Says It's Not Safe
In the new may issue of parenting magazine there is an article that is called "the child safe medicine cabinet"(if you happen to see the magazine its on pg 49 and 50). It says: ( I am gonna write the exact article)

what about ipecac?
If you still have this poison treatment, pour it down the drain. Experts now say it's not effective and can be harmful. Activated charcol may be given in the hospital if your child's brought to the emergency room--it treats many, but not all, poisons. But it's hard to administer, so it's not recommended for home use.
