I'm sorry, i hope everything works out for him and you ... that has got to be so hard, animals are just like your baby, to me anyway.

Do they know why he is not absorbing the nutrients yet?

Get well soon taco!! surgery

Thanks. They aren't sure yet. Today they are doing tests on his liver and pancreas and other organs to determine if its any of them. They already did tests for things like HIV and lukemia and platelet disorders which came back negative. They really aren't sure yet, but are working towards an answer hopefully soon.

It is heartbreaking. It's like having a hospital in the child. I really miss him :/

They said some of the results will be in today and some will take a little longer. He had to fast for 12 hours before taking his blood which was sort of scary because he only weighs 1 1/2 pounds right now (kittens his age should weigh a little more than 3)

The liver results came back good. The pancreas results will come in in about 5 days. He also has bacteria in his system.

They sent him home with me today after a week of hospitals! I have a lottt of work to do at home, though.

He needs 4 hour feedings (I will have to set an alarm to wake up and feed him throughout the night).

He needs fluids under the skin twice a day which involves putting a needle in his scruff and attaching it to fluids which drip in like an IV.

He needs metronidazle, a medication, twice a day.

He needs panacur (another medication) once a day.

He needs pancrezyme powder mixed into his food twice a day.

He needs clavamox (medicine) twice a day.

He needs cobalamin (b-12) shots once a week.

He needs a bath twice a day (to prevent infection from the poo drying on to his skin).

He is still a bit leaky, so it's a huge mess. He can usually make it to his litter box when he has diarrhea, but the slow constant leak keeps on going so I'm cleaning the floor a lot! haha.

He needs his weight to be monitored and dehydration as well. He also needs his temperature taken which he hatesss.

It's 100% worth it for my baby though! He is sleeping on his heating pad right now and is the most precious little guy. It is great to have him home even if its a lot of work. I really missed him. I love him to death

You are a caring mom to your little guy. I know how much my pets mean to me.
They are no different than our children because they are our children only with more legs.

Glad he is home..Smile

It is hard to believe he is so sick, he looks so healthy! Yes, they are worth it. How long do you have to keep up that routine?

I know! I think part of it may be his fluffyness. He's only 1 1/2 lbs and he should easily weigh 3 lbs at his age!

He gets b-12 shots for 3 weeks, he gets one of his medications for 2 more days, and the rest of his medication and the 4 hour feedings etc I have to do for at least a week when I will go in for a check up and she will let me know where to go from there (more or less feedings, more or less meds, etc).

Good, hopefully they will find the cause and will be able to cure him and you can get back to a normal routine. I am sure he is sooooo glad to be back home and feeling some better. Do you have a lot of faith in this vet, or do you think you should get a second opinion? The only reason I ask, is that I have had some REALLY bad experiences with vets, a lot of expenses, and it turned out to be something very simple. Needless to say, I was very upset. My poor baby had to endure all of the tests and being away from me, and it cost me a bundle. Turns out, it wasn't even necessary.

This vet is actually technically the third opinion. He went to the original vet who did terrible and gave him a medication in a way too high dose for his weight which made him really sick.

We took him to a new vet (well, actually the hospital since things went really bad). He seemed really nice and well educated. He referred us to a third vet who specializes in things like the problems Taco has been having. She seems really nice and smart so hopefully she'll be able to pinpoint it. If she can't figure it out, maybe I'll go get a fourth. Anything to get the little guy back on his feet.

I know you are very worried. Maybe all of the things she is doing will help him to get stronger and live a happy, normal life? How old is Taco?

Things are not going well with Boudreuax....after his shot last week things seemed to level out, but today when I came home from work, he had chewed a new hole in his back. I'm thinking about quitting my job so that I can spend all day with him. I really don't know what else to do.......
