Suddenly, I have become aware of my heart beating. It feels like it is pounding....like when you injure yourself and can feel the heartbeat in the injury. It keeps me awake at night and scares me. I also feel anxious when this happens and feel like I am having a panic attack. Anybody else know what I mean? And is it really a heart problem or could it be related to a back injury?

Are you simply sensing your heart beat or does pain accompany the feeling? Is this occurring when you're laying down? How old are you?

Nothing to worry about. It's just the pulse. If you concentrate, you can feel the pulse on almost any part of your body. I can feel it right now in my fingers, for example.

Pounding Heart Beat
Hi,
Are you pre-menopausal or menopausal. I experience the same thing. It occurs when I lay down to sleep at night. I can feel and hear my heart beat in my ear. The loud swishing sensation in my ear interrupts my sleep. It began intermittently off and on over a period of 6 years, but now occurs nightly. I would recommend you get your hormone levels checked as low, estrogen, progesterone levels can cause a many symptoms such as pounding heart beat, ringing in the ear etc. I am in the process of getting my levels checked.
I understand the anxiety associated with anything going on with the heart because you are always in fear that it might be a heart attack. That should be ruled out as well. As women we don't always have chest pain associated with heart attack. The symptoms are often vague such as slight shortness of breath, nausea, feelings of fatigue. So don't take it lightly until you have it ruled out. Hopefully this help.
