Q: Just the Truth: Hard Cases, Rape Incest

Rape is a terrible crime of violence against women. This appalling and destructive violation leaves the victim severely damaged. Sometimes she is physically damaged. More often, emotionaly. Anger, fear, guilt, disgust and loss of self esteem will effect her. This happens even when there is no pregnancy as a result of rape.

By its very nature rape is a very emotional topic, it rightly evokes feelings of revulsion in the ordinary person, but this can lead to illogical and unfounded judgements with regard to pregnancy as a result of rape. Rape victims who are pregnant are offered abortion as a solution. Is this what they realy need?

Pregancy fro mrape is extreemly rare.

1. Thw woman may be infirtile at the time. Monthly cycle , too old, too young

2. The trauma of the assualt is likely to inhibit ovulation.

3. Rape does not always involve a complete act of intercourse

4 statistics worldwde show that the rate of pregnancy arising form sexual assualt is 0.1%

because pregnancy from rape is so rare, there is little research availible, however a study by Dr. Sandra mahkorn entitled pregnancy and sexual assault was the first of its kind in that it studied pregnant rape victims in the usa

it produced starteling findings which contradicted the commonly heald belife that rape vicitms seek and need abortion. This study provided proof of the following arguments.

No solution

1 abortion is no solution. Rape victims need long term care and compassion. Society pretends that by killing the baby it offeres a solution to the assualted woman. Abortion does not make you unpregnant it makes you the mother of a dead baby. In dr mahkorns study most pregnant sexual assault victims refused abortion.

2. Abortion by its very nature is intrusive and violent, and is a second violation of the victims body. It can produce the same kind of anger, fear, self doubt etc that follows rape. For many women abortion, like rape, is an experience they will never forget. Most women in the study felt abortion was an act of violence and issues relating to the rape experience, not the pregnancy were the primary concern in counselling and rehabilitation.

3. Prof. Of psychiatry patricia casey stated in 1992 that pregnancy reduces the risk of suicide in women by a factor of six. Expectant mothers are six times less likely to take their own lives one important factor is that a pregnant suicidal mother is unwilling to take the resposibliltiy for taking the childs life as well as her own.

4. Abortion can also cause physical damage. It increases the chance of miscarriage and makes .S.T.D’s like chlamydia worse.

5. Abortion, acting as judge and jury imposes a death sentence on an innocent child for the crime of her father. The baby is a newly formed and distinct human being, she is not to blame for the method of her conception why should she be victimised by being killed? Many women in the study spoke poignantly and courageously of their desire to protect the child in their wombs from such a brutal death(see just the facts: abortion methods.)

towards healing

1 women made pregnant by rape who do not abort say that hostile and negitive feelings towards the baby change during pregnancy. Some women even decide to abandon their plans to have the baby adopted and decide to bring up the baby themselves.

2. Some pregnant rape victims have said that at a sub-conscience level if they do through with the pregnancy, they will have conquered the rape. Outlasting the pregnancy shows they are better than the rapist who brutalised them (indicting if they abort they are in turn just as bad or worse than the rapist)

3. Abortion should never be considered as a treatment for incest, because it does not solve the underlying cause. In fact the ‘disposal’ of the evidence of incest through abortion could subject the victim to continued exploitation. Abortion in effect becomes a convenient cover up for the crime and hinders the prosecution of the offender.

It must be a wonderful existence for you, being so certain of everything, including how everyone else in the world feels. If there were more people like you in the world, it would be a more wonderful and better place, wouldn't it? No one would be confused, or frightened, or full of revulsion at the injustices and horrors perpetrated daily. They would only need to smile and see how wonderful they are, just like you do, and know they are right. How very lucky you are.

And neither is it true that women do not feel revolted to be carrying the foetus of their rapist, just because you would like it to be.

Again, I never said otherwise! I simply stated these truths..

1. **women made pregnant by rape who do not abort say that hostile and negitive feelings towards the baby change during pregnancy.** some women even decide to abandon their plans to have the baby adopted and decide to bring up the baby themselves.

2. Some pregnant rape victims have said that at a sub-conscience level if they do through with the pregnancy, they will have conquered the rape. Outlasting the pregnancy shows they are better than the rapist who brutalised them (indicting if they abort they are in turn just as bad or worse than the rapist)

****************************************** ****************
now then I even acknowledge the fact there is hostile and negitive feelings towards the unborn baby.

So where do you get off saying I said something opposite to what I have actualy said?

There is nothing good or bad, but thinking makes it so.

i am sorry but I must disagree!

Its like saying

aliens neither exist or dont exist, thinking makes them so.

Either aliens exist or they dont, thinking they exist dosnt make it so.

Either abortion is good or bad thinking it is good dosnt nesicaraly make it so.

And thinking it is "bad" doesn't make it so either.

Exactly - there must be something else that makes something intrinsicly good or bad.

Without thinking either way on the subject!

Except that "good" and "bad" or "wrong" and "right" are moral judgements. Morality is not absolute, it is very much a product of a particular culture and power structure.

Is it now?

Then can you explain how very differing societies agree on a whole host of moral subjects?

If I cut down all the trees in the world this would be *bad* because we would all die, now is it moral for me to cut down all the trees just because I *think* it would be a *good* idea.

Moarality is not decided by culture or power structure but the repocucion of the act. I.E we die due to lack of oxegen because of no trees or a baby dies due to abortion.

Yes there is benifits of me cutting down the trees. We could all have free fuel for our fires and plenty of free paper reducing costs for business and a whole host of land for building. Just as there is a few benifits of abortion; however because life is more important than money and lifestyle. Cutting all the trees down is morally worng the same as abortion is morally wrong because it also kills life.

Yes only one life but there are other repocutions for all life as well including the mother.

Morality, and what is considered right and wrong, are very different in different cultures.

Let's think about polygamy, or beating your wife, or capital punishment...

No, lets think about life and death of innocent human beings, what abortion really is about.

If I had cut down the trees I would have deserved to die, but you who never wouldnt deserve to die.

This is similar to how I came to the conclusion I deserved to die for having an abortion and why I tried to comit suicide.

Abortion is about the right of a woman to control her own body and her own life, when that has been invaded by a foreign organism.

If a woman is happy to be pregnant, and happy to bear the child (whether she chooses to raise it or give it/sell it to someone else), then no one is forcing her to abort.

If she is pregnant against her will, or if she does not believe it is right to bring a handicapped or unwanted child into the world, she should not be forced to let her body be used as an incubator for someone else's morality.
