Q: Sudden Memory Loss

Ok, I've got a problem here and I'm really worried. My boyfriend, who is 16, suddenly started having sudden memory problems. They started back in November or December. He had a "killer" headache in the center of his forehead. It had been lingering all day, then that night we were at my house and he passed out. I went to move his hair from his face and he jolted awake. He had a really confused look on his face. I asked if he was ok and he was like "Where am I?" and "Who are you?". He had no memory of his past, or friends or family or anything. I started talking to him, helping him remember, and when I told him he could play the guitar, he didn't believe me. I handed him my dad's and he just started playing it but he couldn't figure out how he knew the songs. After about three hours, he feel asleep again and woke up and was alright, but didn't remember anything from the last several hours. He remembered falling asleep, then waking up.
This has happened three more times, once near the end of December, once around Jan.9th and tonight. On Jan. 9, it happened during school(around 11am) and lasted until around 7pm. Earlier, he txted me and said that it happened again. Luckily, he's at a friend's house who can explain kind of what's going on. It's killing me that I can't be with him right now, but I'm stuck at home.

When he "changes", he remebers whatever happened from the last times he did it, but can't remember anything from his "normal" life. His personality doesn't really change. He's a curious person by nature. He's a gentleman, and really sweet. None of these things thing. He just....can't remember...

I'm worried that it might be a concussion or something, but I've never heard of anything like this. I didn't think that amnesia would switch back and forth like this. I've done reasearch, but haven't turned up anything quite like this.

Please, someone give me some advice. I'm really worried. I don't know what to do.

Thanks,
~Worried out of her mind

My advice is only one thing! Get him to a hospital. You have to let his parents know if they do not know already. Right away. We have no idea what we are dealing with here. Could be one of several things. He might need to be checked out with a maybe a MRI of the brain to see the whole picture.

I hear ya. I would be concerned too. Could be nothing serious also.
Is he on any kind of narcotics or do you know if he does any kind of hillousinatives? That could cause a really bad problem also.

Let us know how he makes out please. I like other follow these posts and want to know the outcome.

My first question is that are his parents aware of this situation, and if not, why didn't he tell them?

Secondly, does he have a history of drug or alcohol abuse?

Third, these symptoms sound very serious and need to be taken seriously.
Find out why or if his parents don't know, and advise him to seek immediate medical attention. The only thing you can really do is tell his parents, and after that you are not responsible for his or their decisions.

Keep posting. I'd like to know what's going on, too.

Pardon me for being an old cynic but something does not ring true here - I am not doubting the poster, but perhaps the 16 year old boyfriend. If it happened at school, surely he would have been sent straight to hospital if it were genuine?
