I am currently an Industrial Design student at Auburn University. My project this semester is to design a computer mouse that relieves the stress applied to the wrist. Any help or suggestions would be extremely helpful to me.

How do you alleviate your wrist/finger pain while using a mouse?

Do you prefer a larger, more bulky mouse, or a smaller, slim, low profile mouse?

What are the typical problems you have using a mouse?

If you could add anything to your mouse, what would it be?

Thanks for all of your help..

What I find
Hello,

I find that when using a mouse my carpal tunnel becomes really inflamed not only from moving my wrist side to side, but also moving the mouse forward and back.

A possible design would be having a really long mouse that keeps the wrist straight with a thin cusion under it. moving the mouse L-R would then still keep the wrist straight becaus eyou would be moving your forearm. I don't know how to solve the forward back problem because it puts a lot of tension on the lateral epicondese (sp?) muscle that runs up to the elbow (tennis elbow muscle). Holding the mouse ahead of my hand, and not moving my wrist but drawing the mouse under my palm with my fingers adds a lot of tension to this muscle for me.

I have looked around and finally settled on the Logitech mouse...This is put in a holder when it needs charging and my wrist hardly ever moves when I use it....My hand/mouse shelf is lower as I have a big office deal set up and with the pull out typing deal, I am able to keep my hand pretty stationary...I think it cost around $100 but I have had it for two years...I love it because it seem to contour to my hand....

Just my thoughts on this...
