Hang in there. It could be your metabolism. I was very small, weighed about the same as you and was about your height until my junior year of high school. I was actually nicknamed Olive (for the skinny girl in popeye). It really made me so very depressed because tight jeans were the "thing" back then, too. I am 33 years old. There were only one type of jeans that fit me and I couldn't even fit into the cool "Guess" jeans that were very popular.

During my junior year, I became more of an average size but was still considered small. I was a size four at that time. I finally hit 100 pounds and was happy.

I am bigger now but still have a fast metabolism. What once was my curse is now a blessing - in only some ways, I really need more muscle. I don't consider myself too skinny, yet. I have to be careful and really watch what I eat. If I don't eat a well-balanced diet, I will lose weight. I weighed 100 pounds before I got pregnant with my second child and I was too skinny. I lost a lot of my muscle mass even before pregnancy because I forgot to work out and eat right.

I have to eat more protein than the average person to keep weight on and build and/or maintain muscle. If I just eat carbs, the weight just comes off of me because I have an extremely low muscle mass as it is. I just had a baby and weigh 115 pounds, but need to start working out again to build muscle. I

That is my advice for you. Start working out on weights to build some muscle. My guess is that you are thin and have little muscle tone. Eat some healthy fats (not that junk food stuff ) like Avocado. Eat a lot of protein like nuts, fish and meat. Concentrate on avoiding high processed food and sugars. Don't work out unless you have been getting protein. If you have little muscle mass, you may burn more calories and lose more weight.

Good luck. I understand. I have been there.

i eat whatever, i dont have any limits..
i dont read nutrition things, and i dont care
about calories. i drink regular milk, and that doesnt
help either. and, abercrombie jeans fit me
but they are SO expensive! i cant afford much
of that, i only have one pair of those.
thanks for the advice though!

Did you read what I wrote?

I didn't read nutrition labels either and was able to eat tons and still couldn't gain weight. It's all about eating well and eating good fats. I don't know if I changed my diet or added more protein back then if it would have helped. I do believe it would have been easier gaining muscle if I had worked out on weights and add more protein. Perhaps it would not have helped??

My husband was on Crew in college and has the same problem I had. He was put on a high calorie diet (6000 calories a day) to avoid losing weight. He was told to eat a lot of avocado because it is high in fat. He also ate a lot of protein as well. So, he had a dietitian put him on a "diet" to help him.

You mentioned you can eat whatever...but you didn't mention if you worked out on weights. Remember some of us were in your situation and understand. I do believe that is a big problem for some people...we tend to think that we should just gain weight because we can eat whatever. However, if a dietitian really evaluated what a lot of us put in our bodies, it isn't really good and could be a reason why we aren't able to put on weight.

Just my two cents.
Good luck.

Well just eating whatever could very well be hurting any plans to gain weight. It's weird but you're going to have to put as much effort into gaining weight as many do with losing weight.

To sum it up, you need to try and stick to lean cut red meats, beans, starchy vegetables, and heavy breads(feel free to spread something yummy on the bread too). Be sure to eat three meals a day for sure-- a big breakfast if you can. If you snack then make sure its a granola bar or something to that effect. Trail mix is really good too. And healthy bedtime snacks are good as long as it deosn't bother your sleep.

Drink milks, juices, sports drinks, milkshakes or smoothies are good too. Cut out caffefine if you can.

Though I don't think it will be a problem, you still need to watch to make sure you don't gain more than a pound and a half each week, anything more is not really considered a healthy gain-- if you do gain more, cut back just a little bit so you're back on track with healthy weight gain.

You have to eat right to gain weight!

I'm really skinny, and it bothers my swim coach so I've been gaining weight to help with my training. The post I made up a little is how I was pretty much told to eat by our nutrition guy. I've only gained a few pounds, but with swimming everyday and whatnot its pretty good. Maybe it could work for you-- what do you usually eat?

I understand, I take after my dad, who is a stick. Right now, I'm not going to weigh more than 115 but with swimming, I really can't drop back below 110 so I just struggle to stay where I can.

Seafood won't help you gain weight really so that's not a big deal. Pretty much if you just make a conscious effort to eat only foods that will help gain weight. I don't know, do you watch what you eat? Or just eat whats there. I used to eat just whatever, and when I made the switch I had to eat a lot of stuff I don't really like. Oatmeal instead of captain crunch? Barf... But I had to in order to gain weight. My meals are huge too, always a big course with seconds if i like it, a bowl or two of soup, MAYBE a very small salad(big salads are a no) and then I cram in a banana. Pastas are wonderful.

Do you drink a lot of caffeine? Lots of water?
