Hi,
My girlfriend in some stressful times (like during exam periods) sometimes gets this condition where she is very worried and constantly anxious. When we talk about it she says she's not worried about anything specific, not even her exam, and she herself sees no reason why she should be worried but she is. This a bit crippling, she can't concentrate and sit down and study anymore. She feels like she's on the verge of tears a lot of the times and cries a lot. She doesn't seem to have any of the physical problems and symptoms listed on the internet and this forum.
This doesn't happen every time she has exams, just some times. Actually, it didn't happen when she took one of her most stressful exams (a university entry test). It usually happens once a year and lasts a week or so. She is experiencing it right now too as it's the exam period. She was just fine through the first exams but suddenly there was an exam schedule change that triggered this condition.
She's so tired of this condition. She has worked so hard through the term and this at this crucial time when she wants to get the results of her hard work and studying through the term this condition comes up and she can't get the results she deserves. This has happened a few times and she is very very upset about it. This isn't helping her condition either.
as this doesn't happen a lot (almost once a year) and since it's not associated with physical symptoms it doesn't seem to be GAD or OCD. What is it? What can be done? I hate to see her go through this? She is very successful in what she does, I can't see this condition wreck her. Sad

Well it definitely seems like a problem. She should really see someone about it- maybe a counselor or psychologist at her school? It could be GAD. Having all the physical symptoms aren't necessary.

Or maybe these are just how she reacts when things are too much, she's stressed... etc. You know? If it only happens once a year, I'm not sure.

Either way, I think asking someone at her school is a good first step. At least they can recommend ways to cope and give an idea about what's going on.
