exercise and cutting back on sugar Posted: 01-17-08 19:43pm
About 9 months ago I had a blood test and
my Cholesterol was high. The total was
279, HDL 48, LDL 187, Tri, 238. The
doctor want me on Statins right away. Not
wanting to take them, I decided to work on
it in my own way. On that 279 test, I was
just coming out of a foot injury and was
unable to exercise much, combined with the
holidays (chocolates, lots of desert,
etc.), I kind of figured out what it was.
So I started exercising a lot more by
running, lifting weights, walking, etc. I
also slowly cut back on the sugar and,
thinking back, I guess I was really
hitting the chocolate hard. The weight
started to come off and I went from 169 to
160 in the 9 months.
Another blood test was completed last week
and the results today showed the effort.
The total cholesterol was down to 210, HDL
44, LDL 137, Tri 147. Needless to say,
I'm quite satisfied.
But there is more. In looking at records,
this is the second time this has happened.
I had a test in the past that was high,
did the same thing, exercise and cut back
on sugar.
Also, both these times in which I lowered
my cholesterol, I did not eat less
cholesterol in foods. I can say that in
my case, eating cholesterol containing
foods such as eggs, made no difference.
It was the sugar that did it.
Maybe statins should be put in the sugar.

I viewed my post above on the main list
and saw it had a response. Not being able
to get to it because I had to leave, I
tried to view it when I returned and the
response was gone.
