Seafood is advised against for pregnant women due to human pollution. Seafood these days tends to have a high concentration of mercury in it, which is safe for adults but harmful for the developing fetus. Talking to a pre-natal doctor can assist you in finding seafood that is safe to consume, and they can also help you with the fish oil pills.

Yes, and be careful of the sources of the pills. Fish have been found to contain mercury, which is a heavy metal. Scientists still don't know the long term effects mercury has on the body. So, try to go for fish oil from free water fish (kinda like free range chickens, but in oceans or rivers) instead of from fish that are raised on fish farms.

The pills are oil contained in plastic capsules, so you can't smell or taste fish to my knowledge.

I used to take a fish oil supplement that didn't give me the fishy burps, but I don't remember what it was called. It was supposed to help with everything, including my brain function and my mood, but I didn't notice a difference. It was pretty expensive tho compared to the usual brands. You have to get the pharmaceutical grade fish oil too. Other than that, I'd have to ask someone whom I no longer talk to to find out what brand it is...not willing tho lol.

If you do just get a regular one, take it with food and don't take all the pills in one day. That would help the fishy thing.

I prefer flax oil, myself ... for the omegas.

Yucky taste, the fish oil. Have to agree there.

lol I just read my post up there and I said don't take all the pills in one day...DUH. What I mean was don't take the suggested for the day allotment all at once, but spread it out throughout the day lol.

Flax oil doesn't have the same properties as fish oil. I take both.

For the fish burps, I buy enteric coated capsules. No fishy burps.

Fish oil pills DO smell. I keep mine in the freezer. Sometimes I can hardly stomach them because of the smell.

Some fish is fine to eat while pregnant. If you ask your doctor, s/he most likely has a chart that shows which fish has the highest levels of mercury. Some fish are quite healthy for you to eat while pregnant. I had fish at least twice a week during my most recent pregnancy. I just made sure it was cooked really well.

The human pollution component....well, that is a good point. I would think that fish from the fish farms are fine. I do think it's important to get some fish during your pregnancy, just the right kind. Again, talk with your doctor about this.
