Numbness on all parts of outer body
Posted: 01-17-08 15:38pm

I would like to know if anyone could help my wife in any way with some information on what is wrong with her. For the past 2 years she has had numbness on all outside parts of her body she also has no feeling in her right leg from toe to thigh. Confused

In the past 2 years she has had various MRI, CT scans and electro conductive tests done, along numerous blood tests but everything comes back inconclusive. Confused

It has been mentioned that it could be SENSORY GANGLIONOPOTHY. Confused

If anyone could give us some information it would be gratefully appreciated as we would like to find out what the problem is and what can be done about it.

Are you working with a specific neurologist or a team of diagnosticians?

A quick search revealed that SENSORY GANGLIONOPATHY is an autoimmune disorder, meaning that your wife's immune system is actually attacking itself. It seems that the treatment for her condition is not officially defined, and has had mixed results.

I found a discussion paper on the condition, as related to Sjögren’s syndrome, which might help:

http://jnnp.bmj.co m/cgi/content/full/77/8/967

"Therapeutic response to intravenous immunoglobulin (Ig) may involve immunomodulation, lessening the toxic effects of infiltrating cells. During painful sensory neuropathy, we suspect that the lesion responsible is also within the sensory ganglion, with cell inflammation affecting small neurones rather than large ones as in sensory ataxic form."
