I am on bc and take my pills daily but I have a question. I stopped my active pills on Jan 9th and my period started two days later (11th). I was supposed to start my new pack yesterday (16th) but because of an insurance mixup my new pack wont be ready until Friday afternoon (18th). I had sex last night. Was I still protected from the pill?

NO, you were not protected!

That is the MOST dangerous time, if you start a NEW pack later.

You should get PLAN B ASAP, PLAN B will not mess up your taking the pill.

Start your normal pill on friday, but you have to wait 7 days to have unprotected sex again.

Not what i wanted to hear. Actually bf and i had sex last night and again this morning--probably doesnt make a difference tho. I wont start the pill until Friday nite, so that means I wont be protected until next Friday? Just curious, why is starting my pills late the most dangerous time? thanks.

IF You start the pill AFTER you have sex, you CAN get pregnant later!!

YOU NEED TO GET PLAN B emergency birth control. Do you know what PLAN B is? have you ever heard of it?

You CAN take it with regular birth control pills. It stops any ovulation that might be happening.

SPERM can live inside of you for 5-7 days, if you ovulate tommorow you can EASILY get pregnant.

Just curious, why is starting my pills late the most dangerous time?

Because you can ovulate. You are only protected during your 7 DAYS of of placebo/period pills, ANYTIME after that you can ovulate.

YOU NEED to take PLAN B if you do not want to be pregnant.

I wont start the pill until Friday nite, so that means I wont be protected until next Friday?
CORRECT. This is because you need 7 FULL DAYS of taking the pill to be protected. This does not count unless you start a new pack later than you were supposed to!

You can't have a placebo week longer than 7 days. If you wait more than seven days, you aren't protected anymore until you have been taking pills for seven days again.

You will have to use a condom until you have been taking the pill again for seven days in a row.

Until that time, you are at risk to get pregnant.
