Q: long period on Yasmine

I just want to make sure I didn't completely screw myself over.

I started on Yasmine 2 weeks ago, after going to a walk-in clinic doctor. It was a Day 1 start, but the problem is I haven't really stopped bleeding. after about 6 days, my cycle slowed to a light flow, and I did have unprotected sex.

The doctor said I was protected reasonably quickly with a Day 1 start. Anyways, I'm not getting any significant side effects other than a medium to light flow (going on day 14 today). Should I keep taking Yaz and hope it will just sort itself out? Am I pregnant and going through implantation bleeding?

Any response would be helpful. Thanks

If you were still having your period (even if it was a longer period) you couldn't have ovulated already, and the pill will keep you from ovulating in the future. No egg = no baby.

With a day 1 start, you are protected IMMEDIATELY for this reason. So, you're fine. Implantation bleeding is really really rare. The continuing bleeding is probably due to the pill more than anything else, this happens with some women. You might want to contact your doc if it continues (just because you want to make sure you're not losing too much blood) but it might take up to three months for your body to adjust.

Bleeding is not a sign that the pill isn't working, it's just an icky side effect that some women experience. Hopefully, it clears up soon!

yeah that's what i figured. The doc thought I was having a miscarriage, but I'm pretty sure I'm not pregnant. It's still bleeding, starting on day 16. It's a huge burden, and it's varying between light and heavy flow with back aches and cramps. In a few days if it hasn't stopped I'll find an OBGYN and see if they can give me another brand or something. So far, Yaz sucks.

Thanks for the reassurance!

ALL Birth control pills can do that while you adjust!

It takes 1-2 months for your body to adjust.

OBGYN are BEST when it comes to birth control, regular doctors do not know as much.

Lol- I wouldn't go back to that doctor!

Even if you were pregnant before you started the pill, it wouldn't cause a miscarriage. The pill either prevents a pregnancy or does nothing- it wouldn't cause a miscarriage/abortion/whatever.

I would see an OB though- you shouldn't be bleeding that much, you'll get anemic or something.
