hi!
ever since i was 7 ive had a pretty messed up jaw...severe underbite (to the point where docs said my breathing was slightly impaired) and abnormally narrow upper jaw..

im 18 now and after about 10 years of braces, retainers, spacers, you name itt my teeth and jaw are finally looking normal.

the retainers ive had (too many to count) were all pretty much put in to either pull my lower jaw forward, or expand my upper jaw (all of which hurt, thankyouverymuch)

although my mouth is "normal" now, i still experience pain when chewing gum for too long, or when making out it starts popping!!
haha

also, some days its achy and pops when i open it too far

could this be tmj, or just a result of all the stuff ive had done to my mouth over the years? i also had 4 impacted wisdom teeth that would have started growing sideways into my jaw had i not gotten them removed (that was in june 2006)

i know im fortunate compared to some peoplee but it really bugs me...is this anything i should like go to a doctor about or just deal with it?

Extremely eHealthy
yes this sounds like tmd--its the result of the brases retainers, spacers and you name it. So its more than likely muscular. YOu should get treated. If i were you id go see a neuromuscular dentist to retrain the muscles to be in the correct place. if you need help with this i can help you.
